Objectives & Activities
Charitable purposes
To educate the public in the arts and sciences and, in particular, the art and science of music, music presentation of concerts and other related activities.
Activities
Rehearsals and performances of a wide variety of classical music involving members of the society, soloists and, in previous years, local amateur music groups. This year they have consolidated their core activity of performance for the community in Stirling. Three concerts were held at Albert Halls during the period of this report; December 2024; March 2025 and May 2025. These included symphonies by Brahms and Bruckner, a violin concerto and music from ‘The Northlands’.
Achievements & Performance
Stirling Orchestra has had a musically varied and challenging year.
In December 2024, the Orchestra tackled Brahms 3 Symphony and the Leighton Festive Overture. They also had the pleasure of welcominga local violinist to perform the Beethoven Violin Concerto. This was an extremely enjoyable concert made even more so by the violin soloist.
In March 2025 Stirling Orchestra performed a concert entitled ‘Northlands’ with music by Grieg, Larsson and Sibelius. This was well attended and the style of the Scandinavian composers enjoyed by both the orchestra and audience.
Finally, in May 2025 a programme of Bruckner’s 4" symphony and Chabrier’s Suite Pastorale was performed. The orchestra relished the challenge of these different pieces of music and although audience numbers were down on previous May concerts, the performance was regarded as a success. Notes for the May concert in future: As we have lighter nights and there are other activities to tempt people away from an evening with Stirling Orchestra, a more popular programme of Film Music has been planned for May 2026.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of Stirling Orchestra Society | report on the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 1 August 2025, which are set out on pages 1 to 7.
Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 (“the 2005 Act”) and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended) (“the 2006 Regulations”). The charity’s trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1)(d) of the 2006 Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section (44)(1)(c) of the 2005 Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, | do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent Examiner’s Statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:-
-
1 which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements:-
-
1 to keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Regulations, and
-
2 to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Regulations have not been met, or
-
2 to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
