OurStory Scotland collects, archives and presents the oral histories of LGBT people in Scotland. To do this, we conduct and record individual and group interviews with LGBT people, as well as collecting written episodes. Our archive is dispersed among various institutions depending on what kind of material it is. We hold events or attend events organised by other bodies where we share extracts from our archive. We also provide training to other bodies on oral history recording. In order to increase access to our archived material we have created several podcasts which are publicly available.
Beneficiaries: 'Other defined groups'
Objectives: 4.1 to promote the welfare and relieve the needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender ('LGBT') community, which is recognised as a community subject to social exclusion, marginalisation and disadvantage. 4.2 to develop the capacity and skills of the members of the LGBT community in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet, their needs and to participate more fully in society. 4.3 to advance the education of the public in understanding the history, social conditions and needs of the LGBT community through research, archiving, publication and the arts.
