Bathgate Band 31 December 2024 Structure, Governan¢o and management Constitution The band is a registered Scottish charity. It was registered in its current legal form on 8 October 2003. It has a single tier structure and, as such, the trustees are the members of the charity Appointment of Trustees The trustees are elected at the AGM and fulfil the roles of President. VI President, Secretary and Treasurer. and such other Offi bearers (if any) as they consider appropriate. The commtttee consists of a President, VIPresIdent. Secretary and Treasurer as the trustees as well as eight other elected members. Objectives and Activities Charitable purposes The main purpose is to promote and foster the appreciation of music and the playing of brass instruments for the benefit of the communrty, as well as the individual, through social and formal engagernents. and to develop the public appreciation of the art of brass band playing. Activities -e a week The band is currently a Championship Section brass band and meets twi" for rehearsals. These are mostly directed by the Musical Director It's often the main focal point for community events in Bathgate and the SLJ". rounding area and regularly takes part In events such as ConrtS. gala days, Christmas parades, fundraising events and the Armistice Day parade1servls. Perth cOnrt Hall April 4th AGM was held in Bathgate Partnership Centre April 20th Bathgate High Bowling Club Season Opening event April 27th Fife Brass Band Festival (Open Entertainment) Contest May 18th & 19th April- Russell Gray Conductors Workshop weekend, which concluded with a concert at Howden Park Centre, Livingston (& included Bathgate Youth Band) May 31st & June 1st Bathgate PrOSSiOn events June 8th East Calder Gala Day June 18th Linlithgow Marches June 22nd Linlithgow & Linlithgow Bridge Childrens Gala June 28th Bo'ness Childrens Fair July 2Ph Service at Korean War Memorial. Bathgate Hills September 28th Fife Charities Contest, Kirkcaldy October 4th Oktoberfest, Livingston Football Club October 26th Joint Concert with Linlithgow String Orchestra. St Marys, Bathgate December 19th _ Carols at McArthur Glen Designer Outlet Dember 22nd _ Carols Morrisons, Bathgate In addition to the above engagernents1performans a number of the senior band assisted our Youth Band in their many events throughout the year in care homes and supemarkets The band also did some filming wrth BBC Scotland for their programme called 'My kind of town, which aired in September 2024 2024 Achievements: On the contest stsge, the band were placed 7th in the Championship section of the Scottish Championships in March April saw the band compete at the Fife Brass Band Festival (Open Entertainment Contest) where the band were placed 5th and we followed this with a 4th pla at the Fife Charities Brass Band Association contest in September. The Scottish Open held at Perth cOnrt Hall in November saw the band plad 16th Page 3
Bathgate 83nd 31 December 2024 amongst a field of some of the best bands from Scotland, Wales, England and also a band from the USA. Our Christmas cOnrt at St. Mary's RC Church in Bathgate attracted an audien of over 300. This year, we were delighted to welcome the Boghall and Bathgate Pipe Band juniors as our special guests, alongside a fantastic perfomance from our own youth band. The year was rounded off with a social event at the Glenmavis Tavem. The main non-playing fundraisers this year were fantasy football, table-top escape room evening, quiz night and virtual balloon races. When the World Rankings were updated on 31 $1 December 2024, Bathgate Band were 62. (8th in Scotland) Page 4
Bathgate Band 31 December 2024 Financial review The Band started 2024 with £42,377 in the Bank account. We reiVed funds of £12,005 (restricted) and £29,098 (unrestricted), of which we spent £11,180 <restricted) and £27,933 (unrestricted), aVIng a balan of £44,366 at the year end. Our main sources of income are from fundraising, grants and donations. Fundraising.. We continued wtth the fundraising initiatives such as textile collections and Easyfundraising com which alongside our now annual fantasy football league, virtual balloon races and scratch cards collectively raised £1,965. From concerts and collections when playing Christmas carols at Morrisons, Tesco and MG4rthur Glen we raised a further £4.171 The band continues to run its bonus ball, which is currently fully subscribed and brings in a regular income. Grants.. During 2024, the band received grant funding for instruments from Edinburgh Airport and the WM Foundation. as well as contributions from local Gouncillors disbursement funds towards projects in early 2025. Donations.. In 2024, the band reIVed several generous donations that helped cover our general running costs, fund 0 new Player of the Year trophies, and support our National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) fund. The contributions to this fund ensured that our young musicians could attend NYBBS courses without facing financial barriers. At the end of 2014, The Bathgate Band registered with HMRC as a charity for tax purposes in line with Paragraph 1 of Schedule 6 Finan Act 2010, and during 2023 we continued to claim back the basic rate Income tax that had been paid on certain donations from individuals through their gift aid scheme. Bathgate Band 31 December 2024 Reserves Pollcy £10,000 is held in reserve for the purposes of covering any expenses incurred in the eventuality that the Band should be wound up. Plan3 for future The trustees continue to make prresS looking for a peanent horne, preferably in Bathgate. and are currently holding £25.000 in a R8S savings account for this purpose. The band are preparing for several contests during 2025.. The Scottish Championships (March>, Frfe Brass Band Festival (April), Beamish (June), Fife Charities (Sept) and the Scottish Open {Nov) Other events for 2025 include an awards rernOnY arKI workshop (Feb). several civic events and con t Lothian and Glasgow. Basis of independent examiner's slatement My examination is carried out in accordance wtlh Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations An examination includes a review of Ihe accounting records kepi by the charity and the Comparison of the accounts presented wrth Ihose records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees Conrning any such rnatters. The trustees maintain a single unrestricted fund for the day-to-day running of the band. Restricted funds may only be used for specific purpo*s.
