HPCLT was set up as a community charity following the purchase of 421 hectares of an over grazed deer farm at Dun Coillich in Highland Perthshire. The main vision was to increase biodiversity through the restoration og native woodland and other habitats. Other objectives include: to make Dun Coillich relevant to local communities, specifically as a resource for advancing employment opportunities for local young people. to advance education and training in ecology and rural skills. and to provide opportunities for volunteering, walking and wildlife observation. More than 230,000 native trees have been planted, ponds have been established and 12km of waymarked walking trails created. The Trust's community outreach activities are co-ordinated by two employees - a full time Project Officer and a part time Assistant Project Officer and from 2025 the first two Modern Apprentices were employed working in partnership with The NTS, FLS and Kynachan and Dalchosnie Estate.
