Activities

'It carries out activities or services itself'

'the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage'

We have been providing an emotional, social and safety-net support service 365 days a year since 2000, and we never missed a call throughout the pandemic. Highly skilled, well-trained Telephone Befriending staff call out to vulnerable older people at a set time each day (average 3 times per week) and take time to build knowledge, trust, and a meaningful relationship. The relationships we’ve developed over 25 years promote good mental health and our safety-net alert service provides reassurance. We alert an emergency contact person or the Police to potential health problems when a Good Morning Call goes unanswered, and refer to Social Work/GP when there’s a deterioration in health or circumstance. Our average client is 82 years old and she had insufficient social connections and/or felt vulnerable living alone and lives with age related mobility problems and/or a long-term health condition – her Good Morning Call is her one constant before, during, and after the pandemic.
