The principal objective of the charity is to advance and promote the education of the public about the culture and heritage of the islands of Barra and Vatersay. The society operates a heritage centre, Dualchas in Castlebay.

Objectives: (1) to promote the culture and heritage of the Islands of Barra and Vatersay, including the procuring of documents, artefacts, handicraft, photographs and other materials of historical value in the Community 2) To arrange exhbitions, displays and other events of an educational, social and recreational nature (3) To provide a facility or centre for the pursuit of educational, social and recreational activities by the Community (4) To undertake all lawful activities incidental to the accomplishment or furtherance of all or any of the above objects
