We are the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust (HWDT), a marine conservation charity that takes action through a unique programme of community-based research and education. We conduct the research that underpins the future safeguarding of whales, dolphins and porpoises and provide educational experiences in our dedicated Discovery Centre, on our boat Silurian and by visiting schools around the whole of the Hebrides. Based on the Isle of Mull, in the heart of the Hebrides, HWDT has been leading the way for the conservation of whales, dolphins and porpoises in the waters of western Scotland for three decades. Our research has critically advanced the understanding of species that visit seasonally or are resident in the Hebrides. Using what we have learnt, we work directly with communities through our education and engagement programmes to highlight the importance of the marine environment and encourage people to take responsibility for protecting it for future generations.
