The principal objectives of the company as set out in our Memorandum and Articles of Association are to relieve poverty, advance education particularly among the young and unemployed, promote and provide training skills, advance community development, advance community regeneration, promote civic responsibility, to relieve those in need by reason of age or ill health and to advance citizenship for the community and its membership. McSence has a fundamental belief and expertise in the empowerment of communities to help themselves by encouraging partnerships between all aspects of those communities through self-help and increased public awareness.

Objectives: 4. The Charity was formed to benefit the community of Mayfield & Easthouses as defined by the geographic boundary of the Community Council of Mayfield & Easthouses and the wider area of Midlothian as defined by the geographic boundary of Midlothian Council and also works to benefit similar communities in other local authorities across Scotland with the following Purposes (“the Purposes”): I. To prevent and relieve poverty by training for work skills, up-skilling people: through training and development to enhance employment opportunities, encouraging ethical trade, self-employment and entrepreneurial skills and by providing direct grants to individuals or constituted community groups who are in need. II. To advance education by operating training programmes and working with other educational providers to promote and provide educational opportunities. III. To advance community development and regeneration by (a) the management of land and associated assets for the benefit of the community and the public in general following principles of sustainable development, where sustainable development means development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs and (b) the development, maintenance, management or improvement of the physical and economic infrastructure (c) providing premises for not-for-profit organisations and members of the community providing training and employment opportunities that would otherwise be absent from the community, and those providing education, and (d) assisting people who are at a disadvantage because of their economic circumstances. IV. To relieve those in need by reason of age, ill health or disability through operating care services and the provision of training and employment opportunities. V. To advance citizenship for the community and its membership by promoting, establishing and operating other schemes of a charitable nature. VI. To support the charitable purposes of any charitable subsidiary of the Charity.
