Inverness Women’s Aid is set up to prevent and relieve the effects of domestic abuse on women, children and young people in Inverness and the surrounding area. We work to improve safety, wellbeing and long-term outcomes for those affected by abuse, while promoting equality and challenging the attitudes and behaviours that allow domestic abuse to continue. We do this by providing confidential, trauma-informed support services, including refuge accommodation, outreach and advocacy, practical and emotional support, and specialist services for children and young people. We support women to understand their rights, make informed choices, and rebuild their lives free from abuse. We also work in partnership with other agencies and deliver awareness-raising and prevention work within the community.

Objectives: 4.1 To provide a temporary refuge or refuges for women and their children (if any) and to include young people between the ages of sixteen and eighteen where the women have suffered abuse (mental, physical or sexual) in their home or within a relationship. 4.2 To offer support, advice and help to any women and their children and to include young people between the ages of sixteen and eighteen who ask for help (and whether they are refuge residents) and to offer support and advice to any women and children including young people between the ages of sixteen and eighteen who have left a temporary refuge. 4.3 To encourage women to determine their own futures. 4.4 To encourage statutory authorities and other agencies to recognise their obligations legal and otherwise towards women and their children to include young people between the ages of sixteen and eighteen and their representatives in regard to the abuse of women and the prevention thereof. 4.5 To encourage research into the causes, the prevention and relief of suffering and abuse of women.
