Scottish Youth Theatre (SYT) is a national young artists’ development organisation. Established in 1976, our purpose is to collaborate with young theatre artists to create experiences and events that reverberate in their lives, their communities and their country. We bring young artists (aged 14-25) together from across Scotland and also work with young people from specific areas to respond to their local theatre skills and career development needs through creative projects and traineeships. The staff team work in a distributed model (with no central office) supporting the delivery of work across Scotland. Each project we produce provides young artists with space, care and creative stimulus to explore theatre and make new performance work on their own terms. Participants are in control of the creative process and the work they make is their opportunity to interrogate and reflect on things that matter to them.
