The Library of Innerpeffray was founded 345 years ago as Scotland’s first free public lending library, a radical idea at the time, but one that went on to revolutionise the accessibility of information, education and knowledge for everyone. Our Founder said in 1680 that his library was “For the benefit and encouragement” of its users. Today the Library is a museum and a place of study, research and inspiration, still open to all. We share the story of this unique place and the books that changed the lives of the local people of Strathearn over three centuries of reading history. We hold exhibitions, offer opportunities for volunteers, run a programme of events and activities and welcome visitors from all over the world to explore the amazing heritage of this important place in Scotland's story.

Objectives: The governing body shall continue to maintain Innerpeffray Library as a place of antiquarian interest
