The Unst Working Mens Society was set up to provide a village hall for the use of the inhabitants of Baltasound and the surrounding environs. The building is to be available for different types of use, including meetings, lectures, classes and other forms of recreation and leisure time recreation. The objects are to improve the conditions of life for residents. In order to achieve this the trustees keep the Baltasound Hall in good condition and make it available to hire for local groups, individuals and organisation with as little costs as possible. The trustees fundraise to cover building costs, by providing events like Fish and Chip nights for the community. In such a rural community these events provide a social opportunity too and are enjoyed by many, so meet the objectives in two ways. The trustees also provide three events to the community for free, these are the Children's Christmas Tree, the Halloween Party and a Christmas Meal for Older People.

Beneficiaries: 'No specific group, or for the benefit of the community'

Objectives: The said subjects and the building erected or to be erected thereon (hereinafter referred, to as 'the Trust subjects') are dedicated and shall be held by us and our successors as Trustees in all time coming for the purposes of a Reading Room for the use of the inhabitants of Baltasound and environs without distinction of political, religious or other opinions, including use for meetings, lectures and classes, and for other forms of recreation, and leisure time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.
