KINTYRE ANTIQUARIAN & NATURAL HISTORY SOCIETY
ANNUAL REPORT & ACCOUNTS
FOR PERIOD FROM 1 MARCH 2025 TO 28 FEBRUARY 2026
Kintyre Antiquarian & Natural History Society Scottish Charity Number SC006823
Report by the Independent Examiner on the Accounts for the Period 1 March 2025 to 28 February 2026
Respective Responsibilities of the Trustees and Examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) 2005 Act and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The charity's trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (a) to (c) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of Independent Examiner's Statement
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, | do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.
Independent Examiners’ Statement
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention
-
1 which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material aspect the requirements: to keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations have not been met, or
-
2 to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

Field-walks and Outings
There were 2 walks in March, firstly to Kilkenzie to view the old fort, and the ruins of East and West Largiemore, abandoned around the early 1850's and secondly to Mackay's Stone where Robert the Bruce parted company with MacKay of Ugadale and on this occasion commencing the walk from Ifferdale.
The next walk was with Dr Jen Lee in May. She gave us a nature walk on Torrisdale Estate to look at some of the trees and lichen & bryophyte assemblages, made more fascinating when looking at the lichens through a loupe.
In July, we went overseas to Gigha and met up with Brian Wilson who guided us on a walk on the South side of the Island.
In October we had a walk up Amicle Glen, exploring the ruins of Garvalt and Aninanuan which involved crossing many burns!!!
The next walk was in when Dr Jen lee took us on another nature walk, this time up behind Corranbuie, North Kintyre.
The January walk was cancelled due to bad weather, but the February walk took us to Polliwilline where the farmer, John Galbraith joined us and was able to impart his local knowledge to us.
All walks were well supported.
Publications
The Society publishes annually two issues of its journal, The Kintyre Magazine, which is now in its forty-fifth year. Issues are sold at £2.00 per copy. The magazine contains a mixture of history, natural history, archaeology and genealogy, and is read worldwide as well as locally. It is not, however, distributed to Society members as part of the membership subscription, but has to be subscribed to separately. Other publications have been sporadic and comprise reissues of works of history and original research.
Finance & Membership
Kintyre Antiquarian & Natural History Society employs no staff and is run entirely by volunteers. Our main sources of income are the annual subscriptions of our members (currently £10.00 for an individual or £15.00 per family), sales of books and magazines and modest admission charges to lectures for non-members. During 2025/2026, membership consisted of 36 individual members, 14 family members, the President and an Honorary Vice President.
