102[nd] Ayrshire Beith Scout Troop @ December 2025

To date we have 80 members in the troop. 15 in the Explorer/Network section, 21 in the Scout section, 21in the Cub section, 21 in the Beaver section and 2 persons on the waiting list.

There have been some changes in the leadership team some leaving and a couple of new members. We currently have 16 leaders and a couple of new recruits hopefully completing their initial checks soon, due to some of our explorers turning 18 and deciding to join the team.

The troop are still working to be as active as pre-covid, we have held a few camps this year but the uptake has not been as positive as in past years. In November we ran a western themed camp where we took part in several craft activities making feathered headdresses, cowboy hats etc. We went prospecting, captured the flag/or ranches with our band of sheriffs, had a how down and lots of high jinks.

We have attended our church Remembrance day service and parade with our colours present, carried by 2 volunteers from our Explorer section. We attended the local Christmas panto and hosted a community carol concert in our parish church.

Hall maintenance continues to be our biggest difficulty/challenge as funding is diffcult but the team are working hard on this and trying to acquire funding. We spend over £2,000 on roof repairs this session but unfortunately still a few leaks ongoing. The new toilet facilities and hall improvements are ongoing.

This year we had another team taking part in the Explorer Belt trip to Norway in July, which was a huge success. We haven’t had any of our young people taking part in the Explorer Belt since our team that went to Romania, so was nice to be involved and included in this. Our leadership team supported the 3 participants so well.

Our Young People have been working hard on their badges both Activity and Challenge badges. We had our moving up ceremony in November and over 250 badges were awarded, over the 4 sections.

Beavers – a record number of badges have been awarded this year. The Chief Scout Bronze has been a big focus along with several environmental projects, global issues, community impact and health and fitness.

Cubs – the cub pack were lucky to have won the ballet again this year and were included in the young people who took part in The Howling regional camp again. We had 12 young people sign up along with 3 Leaders and 2 young leaders in attendance. The pack have awarded 3 Chief Scout silvers this session and have included problem solving, safety, faith and map skills in their programme.

Scouts – have had a good session also. They are planning an expedition camp for the new year to allow several of the young people to complete their Chief Scout Gold Award. They had a cant cook, wont cook event in which the young people cooked a two course meal and the parent were invited to try their dishes. They have been working on map reading skills and navigation in preparation for their expedition along with their personal challenge awards.

Explorers – the team have really been working hard on their You Shape awards and Leadership as well has hoping to complete Dofe gold award if we can arrange an assessor to assist.
