The Hero Fund was established in 1908 to recognise acts of heroism and provide welfare support and financial assistance, if necessary, to people who have suffered injury, or to the families of people who have been killed in the heroic endeavour to save human life in peaceful pursuits in the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Channel Isles and the surrounding waters.

Objectives: To recognise, support and where appropriate provide financial assistance to injured civilian heroes and their families and the partners and children of heroes who have lost their own lives in the United Kingdom or Ireland whilst attempting to save the life of another.
