DUNGANNON SILVER BAND TRUSTEES REPORT YEAR ENDING 31/03/24
Structure, Governance and Management
The band is governed by its constitution which is reviewed annually and this is managed by the committee who are appointed at our annual general meeting.
Objectives
The band exists to bring together members of the community from all ages and backgrounds to learn and play brass instruments to give enjoyment to all members and the general public through the playing of brass band music.
Activities
This was a very busy year for the band with a wide variety of engagements.
Contests : We continued to build on last years successes in the local Grade 3 contests with a 1st in Armagh NIBA in October and in February at the BBNI contest in Fivemiletown were we placed 2nd while achieving best solo and best march.
Parades and Services : We participated in the usual parades and services for the Royal British Legion, Loyal Orders, UDR and RUC benevolent associations.
Concerts : Our own Spring Concert in April was excellent and we went on to play concerts at Scarva Bandstand and Dungannon park.
Christmas: In the run up to Christmas we played carols in our local area as well as Armagh and Belfast, raising money for local charities.
Slieve Donard : On 2nd September 30 band members carried their instruments to the top of Slieve Donard mountain to play a 30 minute concert. We believe this is the first time a band has achieved this and £8025 was raised which was donated to Air Ambulance. Many thanks to all who donated and helped practically at this very special event. In recognition of the event interviews were held with BBC Radio John Toal and members were later invited to perform at his Christmas special show.
Uniform : We debuted our new uniform on Remembrance Day which has further raised the professionalism of the band, and thanks must go to those who raised funds for this project.
Financial Review
The band appreciates the support it receives for attending these events throughout the year as the donations received from such engagements are voluntary. We are also gratefull to receive Grant Funding from a number of sources which goes towards tuition, running costs and improvements to our practice hall. Thanks must go to those band members who put so much time into these applications. We also continue with our annual fund raisers such as Spring Concert, Last Saturday Catering stalls and Christmas Table Quiz which are all essential to cover out overheads. The band remains in a stable
funding position with reserves in place. Financial accounts have been prepared in accordance with the band constitution and audited by a professional accountants as required by the Charities Commission Northern Ireland.
