Scouts

A summary of the Charity’s main activities and achievements in the year

These are the main activities undertaken by this Charity to further its charitable purposes for the public benefit of its beneficiaries. All Sections of the Group have remained active: Squirrels (4-6), Beavers (6-8), Cubs (8-10), Scouts (10-14). Section meetings take place weekly during term-time, following a structured programme of age-related games and activities, to engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. During the year 1st April 2022-31st March 2023 all sections celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and planted a tree in the church grounds for the Queen’s Green Canopy. All sections took part in the annual youth service and they also made up shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. The Squirrel section enjoyed playing games, did artwork, and worked towards their badges. They completed the Feel Good Activity Badge, the local superhero badge and the I’m Active activity badge as well as the Altogether Challenge Badge. They joined with Beavers for a virtual sleepover and an outdoor visit from Allan from Wee Critters. The Beavers enjoyed a varied programme as they played games, made a variety of crafts, learnt new skills, and complete several Challenge and Activity badges including the Air Activities and Disability Activity Badges. They also had a virtual sleepover with some very excited squirrels, Allan from Wee Critters showed several exciting animals on an outdoor visit and they had a trip to the Pumpkin Patch with other Beavers from the County. Those moving on to Cubs received their Chief Scout Bronze Awards. The Cubs completed badge work such as Emergency Aid, Chef, Artist and Navigator working towards the Core Challenge Badges. Their Fun Day was to Lurgaboy Adventure Centre where they participated in Orienteering, Team building, archery and Canoeing. Seven Cub Scouts completed the Chief Scout Silver Award in readiness to move to Scouts. The Scouts undertook badgework and games each week as they worked towards achieving the Chief Scout Gold award. They took part in a three-day camp held at Lorne Estate where they had the opportunity to engage in activities such as a gorge walk, a gladiator challenge, team building games and a day trip to Bangor. They were well represented at the Remembrance Day Parade and Service in Cookstown where they laid a wreath.

Their annual hike was started in Davagh Forest and ended at Lough Fea.
