St Saviour's Parish Church, Connor Trustees Annual Report for the year ended 31 December 2022 The trustees present the Annual Report; Receipts and Payments; and Statement of Assets and Liabilities for St Saviourfs Church for the year ended 31 December 2022. Objectives and Activities The charitable purpose of the Church of Ireland is the advancement of religion. The principal function of St Saviourfs Church, Connor is to support the advancement of the Christian religion by promoting, through the work of St Saviourfs Church the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical. Being open to and engaging with society as a whole and offering support for those needing help are fundamental to the practical delivery of the benefits of Christianity. A5 a result of artivity in the pursuit of the advancement of the Christian religion, St Saviourfs Church has custody of property and of records, materials and artefacts of significance to the cultural and religious heritage and maintenance of which Is undertaken by the select vestry of St Saviour's Church. See note Ib to the financial statements. Achlevements, Performance The funrtions of the Parish all relate to the advancement of rellgion through holding regular public worship and communicating with and caring for parishioners of all ages and the sick and elderly in the parish and community. Publlc worship benefits all in the parish contributing to the spiritual well- being of participants and reinforcing Christian values through teaching the gospel, Christian witness, outreach and pastoral care. The children attend Sunday School. Our church Bible Study Group meets a nurnber of time5 throughout the year. The Women on Wednesdav group meet5 in the Church Hall and is open to the wider community. Our Mothers, Union welcomes anyone who wishes to attend as does our informal bowlers, group. Our church hall is used on occasions by other local groups. Our church provides a welcome and safe environment to all and supports the Christian religion and its advancement. We adhere to Church of Ireland Safeguarding Trust poliry for the protection of children. Home Communion is offered to those who are housebound and have requested it. St Saviourfs continues to have a close relationship with other churches in the area and also with local community groups. Since the end of the Covid-19 pandemic the above organisations have been able to meet as normal during the year. All our Sunday Services are back to normal as are our other special Services during the year. People are still aware of the presence of Covid 19 and are cautious which has affected attendance. General Data Protertlon Regulatlon (GDPR) 5t Saviours aims to adhere to GDPR. St Saviour's Parish Church. Connor Additional Services, i.e. Community Christmas Carol Service, and other Commemoratlon Services are held at appropriate times throughout the year. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday Services alternate between St Saviourfs and St Patrick's Antrim. Sunday School meet each Sunday during term time from 10.45am - 11.45am and the children are encouraged to take part in the Family Service each month. Public Benefit The Parish has given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland's guidance on public benefit to ensure that the actives entered into durlng the year have helped to achieve the Parish's objectives and activities. as well as providing public benefit. Financlal Revlew The overall 8iving in the General Account during 2022 increased as a result of additional donations, bequests, and a small grant relating to Covid. However, It Is recognised that the results of the Covid- 19 pandemlc are stlll affecting church attendance and giving. The agreed overdraft with the bank, to ensure that day to day costs could be met, continued durin8 2022. Expenditure increased sllghtly during 2022 due to inflationary increases across general running costs. Volunteers from the Parish help to look after the Church and Rectory grounds, grass cutting and cleaning of the church and hall thus assisting in reducing costs. The Restoration Account continues to hold a healthy balance but saw a decline in income levels as ad hoc donations fell but it was noted general givlng levels remalned consistent. The lighting in the church and church hall were replaced throughout with LED bulbs and fittings. Faulty radiators in church and church hall were replaced. The Mlsslon Account Is used for supportln8 the work of church missions overseas and at home and related charities. There was no significant change in the balance on this account. The Honorary Treasurer manages the Finances and reports back to the trustees at the monthly vestry meetings. The trustees oversee the Parish finances and the allocation of all monies. Golng Concern The Trustees have discussed the flnancial viabillty of St Saviourfs for the year ahead and continue to take appropriate action to reduce costs. The impact of Covid-19 has continued into 2022 which still has an effect on numbers of congregation attending church. The Trustee5 have continued with the agreed bank overdraft and are satisfied that this will ensure that there are adequate funds in place to enable the Parish to continue its activities, and the financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2022 can be signed off as a going concern.
St Saviour's Parish ChurcK Connor The trustees note that St Saviourfs have adequate restrirted fvnds in the restoratlon account. The trustee5 are aware that the restricted income funds have been declared by the donor(s) for specific purposes and have legal consequences if not utilised for that purpose. Structure, Governance and Management Governlng Document and Constitution of the Charlty Chapter 111 of the Constitution of the Church of Iland governs Parishes and Parochial Organisation. The select vestry members are the Charity Trustees. Recrultment and Appolntment of Select Vestry rfrustees) All members of the Church of Ireland: who are over the age of 18; and are either resident within the parish or live elsewhere but have been accustomed members of the con8re8ation for at least three months; and subscribe to the funds of the parish, may register as members of the 8eneral vestry of the parish, allowln8 them to attend and vote at meetin8s of the general vestry and to stand for election to the select vestry, Meetings of the general vestry are held at least once a year. The select vestry is elected as part of this general vestry meeting. The select vestry will hold their positions for a period of one year. Select vestry members may be re-elected annually and there is no Ilmit on the number of terms which may be served. Pay and Remuneratlon The Incumbent of the Parish stlpend Is pald dlrectly by the Parlsh. The Incumbent recelves a stlpend, office and locomotory allowances in accordance with fi8ures approved by the General Synod of the Church of Ireland. As the Incumbent, is responsible for the grouped parishes of St Saviourfs, Connor and St Patrick's, Antrim the stipend and office and locomotory allowances are shared equally between both churches. Organlsatlonal Strurture The select vestry is responsible for the dayto day management of the parlsh. The select vestry conslsts of the incumbent, the churchwardens, the glebe wardens and generally not more than twelve other members of the general vestry elerted at the annual general vestry meeting. The select vestry is chalred by the incumbent. Select vestry members are responsible for making decisions on matters of general concern and Importan to the parish including deciding how parish funds are to be applied. The select vestry meets at tSmes fixed by the members or by the diocesan synod. Special meetings may be convened at anytime bythe chairperson orthe churchwardens. Ouring 2022 the Select Vestry met 6 times during the year and the average attendance was 75% also a few impromptu meetings were held after the morning Servlce.
St Saviour's Parish Church, Connor Statement of TNstees' Responslbilitle5 The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees, Report and the Statement of Receipts and Payments and Statement of Assets and Liabilities in accordance with applicable law and regulations. The law applicable to charities in Northern Ireland with Income of less than £250,000 requires the trustees to prepare a Statement of Receipts and Payments and a Statement of Assets and Liabilities for each financial year. The trustees are responsible for keeplng accounting records that are sufficient to show and explain the Parish's transactions and disclose wlth reasonable accuracy at any time the assets and liabilities of the Parish. They are also responsible for safeguarding the asset5 of the Parish and hence for takln8 reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irre8ularitles.
