PRESIDENT’S REPORT:

Covid stopped many things from happening again so Lord Bathurst was unable to meet with Brad regarding getting new/younger members. Sheila commented we need somebody with social media skills and suggests approaching Cirencester College or possibly St James Place. Lord Bathurst suggested a change of name to appeal to younger members.

  1. CHAIRMAN’S REPORT 2021-2022 Great to see everyone in person in the hospital once again. Zoom meetings went well as an alternative but not everyone could take part.

The effects and uncertainty of COVID-19 have meant a difficult year for fundraising, with many events being cancelled.

The Cotswold Show did take place in August 2021 and the bucket collection raised £3,244. The grant of £30k from the John Armitage Charitable Trust (JACT) was a delightful surprise and allowed us to purchase more equipment for MIIU and the wards. Cardiac monitors, hoists, riser recliner chairs and a bariatric trolley.

Local groups such as Cirencester Golf Club and Stratton Football Club continued to support us. We sold Christmas cards in the shop, provided a bit of Christmas cheer with stockings for the patients, chocolates for staff and Christmas trees in both quadrangles to brighten everyone’s spirits. Our matron Linda Edwards retired in march. Denise Gillett replaced her last month as our new matron and we look forward to working with her.

We need to recruit new committee members. Like many other organisations, this is increasingly difficult BUT please try to encourage anyone to try us.

Finally thank you all. Thanks to Lord Bathurst for allowing the bucket collection and his continued support as President. Thanks to the staff at Cirencester Hospital. Thanks to Rosey, Debbie and Jackie for supporting me – you all make my role as chair so rewarding.

4. TREASURER’S REPORT:Treasurer’s Annual Report on Accounts 1[st] July 2021 to 30[th] June 2022

Copies of year end accounts were provided to Committee Members.

This year saw the return of the annual wish list as well as the bucket collection from the Cotswold Country Fair.

Looking at the Balance Sheet first of all, funds of the charity as at 30[th] June stood at £106,426.91 comprising restricted funds for Hospital Radio £7,658.58 and unrestricted funds £98,768.33. Our assets are primarily held across Current Account £30,438.28, Virgin Account £74,000 and COIF Account £1000 together with small amounts for the Hospital Shop and Hospital Secretary’s Float.

5.

Turning to the Profit & Loss account, income was £40,470.93 of which £37,135.26 came from donations and shop sales and £3,244.94 from the Cotswold Country Fair. Investment income was £90.73. A breakdown of donations is given in note 1 including a donation of £30,000 from the John Armitage Charitable Trust and a further £2000 from the legacy of the late Rita Sealey. Donations were also received from Cirencester Golf Club, the villagers of Ashton Keynes, Corinium Ladies Luncheon Club and Stratton Football Club.

Turning now to our expenditure: Equipment purchased for the hospital totalled £22,086.93 and £1,744.35 was spent on facilities. A full breakdown is given in notes 3 and 4, from which you can see that the largest items were £10,100 for 2 hoists, £8,487.75 for 2 cardiac monitors and a total of £2,115.44 on pressure cushions. £1,288.60 was spent on training models for pressure sores.

Gardens Annual Report

This year has been challenging with an unusual amount of weed growth at the beginning of the season followed by a drought. Of some concern we did loose a proportion of young trees we had planted during last winter.

The crop in the orchard we thought was going to be very good as we had no late frosts this year. However despite the large quantity of fruit, the apples are on the small side due to drought. Everyone is welcome to help themselves to the fallers as from now on there is plenty for everyone. We have gratefully received a donated timber gazebo this year which has proved useful for shade as well as shelter during recent heavy downpours. We have now had a number of trunks turned into planks ready for new benches.

We are going to be welcoming two large commercial volunteer groups this autumn for constructing seating areas and renovating some paths. We are also hoping to re establish links with the agriculture university and local schools during this coming year, links that were broken during the pandemic. We will also be welcoming two pupils from the Paternoster school for some work experience.

Planned gardening work for the coming year will be renovation of one border in the main courtyard, and the borders around the chapel and drop off entrance

We currently have eight volunteers on the books, with an average attendance each week of six.

13. ANY OTHER BUSINESS:-

A minute silence was held for the death of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II.

Also for Denise Selby (a former baby show judge) and Lina Watts’ son Stefan, whose funeral was yesterday 12[th] September. Denise’s funeral is on Friday 16[th] September 10.30am in the Parish Church.

Additional Wish List items for the hospital:

A Television for side room 6 Coln ward, to replace a broken TV £189.

2 Radios (1 Coln, 1 Physio) £49.99 each

Fall sensors (floor/chair) for £1,163 in total. This has been trialled and proven to work. Proposer: Rodney Hibberd, Seconder: Lord Bathurst, All in favour.

Sheila had a letter from a solicitor informing us that Robert (Bob) Gittins left a legacy of £1,000 to the League of Friends in his will.

There are some ladies who collect and sell bric-a-brac in Stratton who wanted to give us some money, but they did not want any publicity. Sheila went and had her photo taken and collected a donation of £350.

Cirencester Golf Club has given us a cheque for £450.

DATE OF THE NEXT MEETING: TUESDAY 15TH NOVEMBER 7.30PM VIA ZOOM.
