hairmans Re ort 2021-22 We started the year slill suffering from the controls on meeting face to face still in place due to the pandemic. Meetings continued online until the end of July. However the group bank account was in a healthy state due to a number of rate iebate grants. This enabled the Executive committee to plan some improvement work on the building. A risk assessment was carried out to identify the priority improvements needed. The first stage was the removel of the Calor gas spaceheater and the installation of a central heating system. This was compleled in time for retum to face to face meetsngs from September. The project is ongoing We also had a setback when, in August, two joyiiders m, managed to drive their car through the metal boundary fence and into the hut wall. This damaged Iwo concrete pillars and some of the wall panels. Fortunately we were covered by our building Insurance and repairs to the building were completed over the Christmas break. At the beginning of the year we were approached by the playgroup based at st. Francis of Assissi Church hall. They asked if they could relocale to the hut, using it from 8a.m. to 4p m. Monday to Fnday, Term time only The executive commrttee debated the request and a decision was made to tnal for one year initially. The Auturnn tetm saw the creation of the new Squirrels section designed for 4ffj year old children, whish has been a great success and now has a waiting list. During the second half of the year we have had several well attended parade seNices at St. Nicholas Church, including Remebrance Sunday My thanks go to Fr. Andrew for his entertaining sermons and to all who attended these serrfices. Over the year, all sedions have grown to near capacity, which only demonstrates the hard work being done by the Section leaders and their assistants. I iecognise that they are all volunteers and put in many hours over and above those spent at their relevant meeting nights. Without them Ihe 'th simply could not exist. My thanks go out to them andalso lo the members of the ExecutNe committee for all they do in keeping the 8th Coventry Scout Group running. Thank you all. Les Harlock Chairman. io
uirrel's AGM re ort Well, what a busy six months we have had! Numbers have rocketed to 27 Squirrels joining us for our weekly meeting with 10 more on a waiting list for children waiting to become 4 years old. We have had Ewa join us as a sertional assistant and Alex as an assistant leader, making our numbers currently 4 leaders and one young leader. We also have leaders from the Beaver sertion come down to help. I would like to thank all the leaders who have giving up their time to make Squirrels such a success. As always, if any parents would like to join the Squirrel team and would like more information, please see myself or Sam. The Squirrels have gained several badges including Stage one Emergency aid, local superhero, Story time and brilliant builder, which we couldn't have done without help from fellow scout leaders and visitor from outside companies. We have been on a trip to Aldi to learn about where food comes from, attended the Bablake district Day, joined in on church parades, and had our own St George's Day celebration and Jubilee tea paty. We raised some money alongside the Beavers for the Ukraine Appeal with a coffee morning and been to the cinema to see Buzz lightyear. We are finishing our first term with a stomp and family picnic. Lastly, I would like all the parents for their lovely comments and messages either via our Parents WhatsApp group, the Squirrels Facebook page, or emails. Like l always say, we would not have a Squirrel Drey without the commitment from the parents bring them down every week and putting up with our mad ideas. Many Thanks Deborah (Bumblebee) and Samantha (Butterfly) li
Another fantastic year for Beavers at the 8th! Beavers have worked so hard this last year to earn their chief scouts bronze awards. l am so proud to present some of our section with these awards today. Our program has covered a little bit of everything thi5 last year, froffl books and banana5, to first aid and fires, thankfully not at the same time! We enjoyed our group camp in October, many memories were fflade and for some of us, our first night away from home was spent with friends, In the winter month5 we looked at remembrance and the importance of remembering, We collected items for our community and enjoyed festive activities as a section, and as a group. when we returned in January, we visited our local library, we had a wonderful visit from Fr, Andrew, and learnt all about mindfulness and how important we are. We enjoyed a very competitive sports night, and watching our friends in the Gang Show, We started back after easter with a camp, and spent 2 wonderful nights at Rough Close, doing activities all based on Roald Dahl, the camp was a huge success with many requests to do it all againl Our most recent term focused on our collectors, hobbies and Communicator badges, as well as celebrating the platinum Jubilee. We held a tea party to celebrate and say thank you to our leaders and familie5 for their hard work across the last year. We're finishing the year with a visit from the police, a big water games night, and picnic with the squirrels! A big thank you to all parent5 and carers, the squirrels, cub5 and scouts leadership team5, for your hard work in the group, and to the executive committee for your hard work behind the scenes. And Finally, to my leadership team, Deborah, Myfanwy, Kim, Mia, Sam and Alexi, thank you for your support and passion for our section, I would not be able to do this without you. Have a lovely summer! 12

Covent Scout Troo A.G.M 2021-2022 Re Another year has come to an end. and it has been a greai year for the Scoul section, which has grown strength to strength. We started back in September with 26 members where we improved the Scouts map reading and navigation skills. We also spent tivo weeks doing the first aid badge and two weeks doing the DIY badge as well, teaching the Scouts important life skills. We managed io do a loi of overnight stays as well induding Spark's survival camp and the 8" Group camp which %ve all had great turnouts for. and everyone had an amazing time. As November came around, we also had our annual Remembrance Day sleepover and slvim up at Bedworth swimming baths with the beavers and cub section. This wa5 shortly followed by the annual District Swimming Gala which was great as we retained the trophy so well done to everyone involved. We ended the year by taking all the scouts bowling and they all had eat time. As the New Year came round. we taught the kids fire lighting skills and had Father Andrew talk to the Scouts about Faith. which we are hugely grateful for. We also got the Scout5 to start their personal challenge badge and after the February half term we covere(I Internet safety and the Scouts to do the Model Maker badge at the Warhammef shop which all the kids enjoyed. We ended the term by covering some more map reading before taking all the scouts on a night hike round Radford without too many issues thankfully. In April we took all the kids to see the annual Coveniry Scouts Gangshow. which for qutte few of them was their first ever time seeing it and it bvas a fun night. We then spent the beginning of the temi going over basic scouting skills and showing them ho%v to put up and take dotsvn the tents to prepare for our next camp tsvhere we took the kids to Fox Covert5, which was a new site for all of us to vis.rt which was someihing new for everyone. We also had the St. George's Day parade which was great to see all the kids smartly dressed representing the Eroup. The Big Walk also took place where we had a good turn out and was great to see so many help fundraise for the section. Our next camp came up and it wa5 the Bablake District Camp which was the first for a very long ts"me. so it was very much anticipated and something all the scouts Ihoroughly enjoyed. Working towards more challenge badges we helped the community out by going down to Moseley Primary School to help plant trees and do some litter picking. Thanks to Captain we've had lots of fundraising to help fundraise for France tsvhich is very much appreciated. We look the patrol leaders and assistant patrol leaders on to a Joint Scout camp with the 42" to earn their expedition badge, it was great to link up with other scout groups %vithin the district. The past feiv couple of weeks 4ve t¢)ok the Scouts Canoeing on the canal basin and they all seemed to enjoy it and something we hopefully can do again in the future. As we have had full actiorFpacked programme the past year, l am pleased to announce we have awarded 239 badges with 72 still to be handed out, taking the total to over 31X) badges! This all could not have happened with the hard work that all the Scout Leaders have into this section. and I want to thank each one of them for everyrhing. The Scour section are in a strong position. and l am lookn-ng forward to more adventures over the next year. 14

Subs for Scoutng at the 8th
As you are aware, you child is signed up as a scouter at the 8[th] Coventry, and whereby we have a monthly subscription fee, the misconception among most parents is that you only need to pay for the weeks or months that you attend.
It may not have been explained clearly to you when you signed up, but the subscription fee is actually an annual fee of £110:00 for the year, and as we meet officially for 11 of these months we require our parents to pay a monthly subscription of £10:00.
We understand that some people prefer to pay weekly, and other parents prefer to pay monthly, and where we are trying to encourage all of our parents to pay electronically, we are still happy to accept cash payments where it is easier for the parents involved.
From that £110:00 we need to pay our capitation costs to scouting headquarters which is £45:00 a year, plus our usual running costs such as gas, electric, rates, water etc. If parents fail to pay their £10:00 per child per month, this then means we have to use our fundraising monies, and activity money to recoup what is not paid from the parents.
