The Trust has 4 ex-officio Trustees (Bishop of Leeds, Archdeacons of Trustee selection methods Halifax and Pontefract, Chair of the House of Laity), 2 nominated Trustees (eg. appointed by, elected by) and 4 co-opted Trustees.

Section C Objectives and activities
The objectives of the Trust are:
a) to promote any charitable purposes within the area of the former diocese of Wakefield, which are in need of spiritual or material Summary of the objects of the assistance by reason of social or economic changes with a view charity set out in its to reinforcing the work of the Church of England among the governing document people of that area.
b) To promote and assist the charitable work of the Church Urban Fund.

In planning the activity for the year the Trustees considered the impact on the wider community (for the public benefit) of the grants made.
The key aim of the Trust remains to support locally based projects where mission not maintenance is the mainstay of church life.
An additional consideration this year was the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the churches and community of the area.
Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)
During the year 28 grant applications were considered and grants (either in full or in reduced amounts) were awarded to 25 of the applicants. (A decision on two of the grants was deferred until additional information was supplied).
The Trustees met virtually on two occasions – using Zoom software – as required by the pandemic restrictions.
The Trustees are aware of and have considered the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.
Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)
The Trustees consider grant applications from church organisations with the purpose of supporting mission within the former diocese of Wakefield specifically encouraging:
- congregational growth – projects which provide new facilities or initiatives to encourage increased attendance and support for churches;

attracting young people – new initiatives to attract and retain young worshippers;

community outreach – new projects to bring wider benefits to the wider local community, helping and working with local people.

The Trustees look favourably on applications for:

Projects working across parish boundaries

Environmental and green community initiatives.

Salaries of paid staff

Purchase of equipment for “normal” patterns of worship

Building work – including the repair and restoration of church buildings.
Examples of projects benefiting from grants in the period are: equipment to support live streaming, asylum seekers support, children’s (messy) clubs and holiday clubs, toddler groups, school assembly support, contactless donation station, outdoor exploration trails.

Audit 2021
I have examined all the documents and financial records provided to me for the Bishop’s development fund for the year July 2020 to 30 June 2021. The accounts present a true and fair view of the activities of the charity and there are no issues I wish to bring to the attention of the trustees.
