In planning the activity for the year the Trustees considered the impact on the wider community (for the public benefit) of the grants made.

The key aim of the Trust remains to support locally based projects where mission not maintenance is the mainstay of church life.

An additional consideration this year was the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the churches and community of the area.

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

During the year 28 grant applications were considered and grants (either in full or in reduced amounts) were awarded to 25 of the applicants. (A decision on two of the grants was deferred until additional information was supplied).

The Trustees met virtually on two occasions – using Zoom software – as required by the pandemic restrictions.

The Trustees are aware of and have considered the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)**

The Trustees consider grant applications from church organisations with the purpose of supporting mission within the former diocese of Wakefield specifically encouraging:

- congregational growth – projects which provide new facilities or initiatives to encourage increased attendance and support for churches;

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

- policy on grantmaking;

- policy programme related investment;

- contribution made by volunteers.

   - attracting young people – new initiatives to attract and retain young worshippers;

- community outreach – new projects to bring wider benefits to the wider local community, helping and working with local people.

- The Trustees look favourably on applications for:

   - Initiatives to encourage the formation of new Christian communities and groups

   - Projects working across parish boundaries

- Environmental and green community initiatives.

- Applications are not normally approved for:

   - Salaries of paid staff

   - Purchase of equipment for “normal” patterns of worship

   - Building work – including the repair and restoration of church buildings.

Examples of projects benefiting from grants in the period are: equipment to support live streaming, asylum seekers support, children’s (messy) clubs and holiday clubs, toddler groups, school assembly support, contactless donation station, outdoor exploration trails.

Audit 2021

I have examined all the documents and financial records provided to me for the Bishop’s development fund for the year July 2020 to 30 June 2021. The accounts present a true and fair view of the activities of the charity and there are no issues I wish to bring to the attention of the trustees.
