The object of the Charity is to help young people between the ages of 11 18 towards responsible adulthood, by encouraging valuable personal attributes and high standards of conduct using a nautiGg1 theme based on the customs ofthe Royal Navy. Summary ofthe objects ofthe charlty set out in its governing document Publlc Benefft Statement The UMC continue to give due regard to the public benefit provided by the Unit in relation to the charitable purpose of the Sea Cadet movement as set out in the activities and achievements listed in the Chairman's report. The aim is to promote Ihe development of young people in achieving their physical, intellectual and social potential as individuals and responsible cstizens in a safe environment. In order to achieve this, the Unit takes young people from all backgrounds, including where possible those with dis8bilities and develops their skills and abilities by. Regular and structural activities with a nautical theme. Allowing young people to take part in activities with the wider Sea Cadet movement such as seaborne activities, events and competitions at District, Area and National levels. Instructed by fully qualified and committed volunteers the ￿et$ exper,ence both male and female role models ip. the besl light, they are IntrodU￿d to various serious aspeds of life covering health and safety, rfsk management, first aid. food hygiene, personal care, resource management and above all the diversity and interaction be￿een other youngsters of differing backgrounds. They leam to work for, and with. adults of the many civic, public and private organisations they meet with ove., the year. The Harrogate & District Sea Cadet Unit draws boys and gids aged 10-18 from across the Harroga*e District. This year the average complement of Cadets has been around 30, all achieving accredited progress in the routine Sea Cadet training syllabus, and they can also gain access to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and BTEC qualifications. In additiori to this and the events listed in the Chairman's and Commanding Officerfs reports, they have benefited the Harrogate Council at formal events, particulady the band being called upon for official parades. They have helped the local commun with music and cadet dis s at Galas arKI veteran events.
