NORTH CAVE PLAYING FIELDS ASSOCIATION

Secretary’s Report 2020/21

We have had another difficult year but are still able to operate.

Much of the year was adversely affected by Covid 19 and lockdowns and it was not possible to hold meetings or the 2020 AGM until this year. Many other events could not happen as well. We will be hosting the postponed village celebrations for the 75[th] anniversary of D-Day and will be holding our firework and bonfire evening on 5 November again.

We also had the most terrible behaviour by our bank – HSBC. Despite completing their “safeguarding” review several times (once on the telephone which they confirmed was OK), they summarily closed the account and sent me a cheque for the balance. Of course, we did not have an account open ready to receive this and so the PFA could not pay its bills. Fortunately, the Social Club account was still functioning and they have paid some day-to-day bills on our behalf. We also had to pay the balance for the new machinery but couldn’t.

We have now opened another account – unfortunately with HSBC as this was the only bank offering new accounts at the time due to fraudulent bounce-backloan applications.

As mentioned above we did purchase new machinery and replaced almost all of our main pieces of equipment which had become obsolete and difficult to maintain. Thanks to a large contribution from the Football Foundation (£21k) and with the sale of the old equipment (£5k) the net cost to us was only £2,000.

Looking forward to a better year in 2021/22.

Treasurers Notes

HSBC first froze our account and then closed it on 26th May 2021, due to their compliance requirements. They later deemed that their action was inappropriate and reopened a new account under a different account number. The new account opened around 1st September 2021.

We were successful in securing a Football Foundation Grant, to replace out ageing Ground Maintenance equipment. Due to our account being frozen and closed by HSBC we were unable to settle the outstanding amount of £21,304.85 unitil the new was opened in September. We have therefore listed this debt in our 20/21 accounts as a creditor.

Likewise we have listed the £4761.36 support debt to North Cave Sports Club as a creditor.

We received around £1000 in Playarea sponsorship, listed as "Donation Income"

However, without any income from Galas or Bonfire events during the Pandemic period, we showed a real loss of

£ 4,935.61
