VICTORIA COLLIERY & KNYPERSLEY WELFARE TRUST NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2023 ACCOUNTING POLICIES a) Basis of preparatlon and assessment of going concern The financial slalemenls have been prepared under the historical cost convention unless otherwise staled in Ihe relevant notes to these accounts. The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice= Accounting and Reporting by Charities {FRS1021 and the Financial reporting Standard {FRSI 021 and the Charities Act 2011. The trustees consider that there are no material uncertainties about the Trust's ability to continue as a going concern. The trustees have a reasonable expectation the Trust has adequate reserves to continue in operation existence for the foreseeable future. Accordingly the trustees continue to adopt th8 going concern basis in the preparation of the accounts. b) Incorne Recognltlon Income is recognised once the charity has enlillemenl lo the income, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount of incorne receivable can be measured reliably. Donations are recognised when they are received. c) Expenditure Recognltlon Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a l&gal or constructive obligation committing the charity lo that expenditure, it is probable that settlement will be required and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. All expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis. Grants are recognised when they are approved and the intenlion has been communicated to the recipient. d) Depreciation Depreciation is provided on all assets other than freehold land and aims lo write off the costs of the assets over their estimated useful life. VICTORIA COLLIERY & KNYPERSLEY WELFARE TRUST REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2023 The trustees present their report along with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2023 The financial statements have been prepared in accordance wlh the accounting policies set out in note 1 to the accounts which can be found on page 5 and comply wlh the charities trust deed, applicable law and Chariles SORP FRS 102. ConstItuOn Ob'ectives and Actlvities for the Public Benefit The charity is constituted by an amended Governing Document dated 14th April 2005 and is registered under the number 522689. Ils objective is lo provide facilities for sport, recreation. leisure and education for the benefit of the inhabitants, and in particular bul not exclusively, such of the said inhabitants as are members of the mining community, of the area of benefit without distinction of political. religious or other opinions with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. The trustees have referred to the guidance given by the Charity Commission on public benefit when reviewing the charity's aims and objectives and details of the activities that have taken place during the year can be found later in this report. Or anisational Structure The trustees who have served the charity during the year are shown on pagé 1. The charity is responsible for maintaining the premises and its contents and grounds in a suitable stale of repair for use by those who live in the surrounding area. It raises some funds through various charitable activities. In addition, a certain amount of ils income comes from ils connected trading company, The Victoria Colliery and Knypersley Social Club Ltd. thich pays an annual occupational licence fee to the charity in order lo run its business from the charity's premises. In addition to this, the company also transfers any profits it makes to the charity under a Gift Aid agreement, so the trustees work closely wth the directors to try to ensure the company is profftable, thus ensuring extra income for the charity. Trustee vacancies are advertised and interested parties are asked to apply in writing. Interviews wll be held and suitable candidates are then notified to their nominating body being either CISWO or trade union members. Finan¢lal Revlew The charity had nel outgoing resources of £5,005 for the year compared wth net incoming resources of £13,049 in the previous year. The trustees are relatively happy with the results this year and look fOard to increased usage of the facilitres and better results going forward. Investment Polic The charity does not have an investment policy in place as such but if there were sufficient funds the trustees would place the charity's liquid assets in an interest bearing bank account. Reserves Polic It is Ihe policy of the trustees to maintain unrestricted funds which a the free reserves of the charity, at a level to provide sufficient funds to cover anlicipaled administration and support costs for a period af 12 months. Any additional reserves are held lo provide a capital fund for repairs that will be required for the upkeep of the premises. Continued... 14
