CHAIRMAN'S REPORT FOR YEAR ENDING DECEMBER 2020
2020 was certainly an unusual year for the VC Hall. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were only open business as usual for the first 11 weeks of the year - until 20 March. We then closed for over 4 months until 27 July. We opened again until 4 November and closed again until just before Christmas when we were allowed children’s activities only. We then closed 19 December until April 2021. So for 9 months of 2020, we had no parties and no private bookings at all, just our regular users.
There was still work to be done. Our caretaker came in as usual to carry out routine maintenance, check security, flush loos & water tanks and generally keep an eye on the place. This was a requirement of our buildings insurance policy. And the Manager and myself concentrated on trying to understand the government lockdown rules and how they applied to the VC Hall.
So, it was an unusual year, but it would appear that due to government grants and assistance, we did not suffer too much financially.
What did we achieve during the year:
We opened each time the Government rules allowed us to. We kept our users safe, and avoided any COVID-19 outbreaks By applying for government grants and by our own financial management, we have remained financially secure.
