The Trust board e�ists to make sure the charit� is �ell-managed, risks are assessed and mitigated, e�er�one follo�s legal requirements and the charities policies. Their support helps other �olunteers run high qualit� and safe conferences on Famil� Histor� that helps Famil� Historians �ho ha�e Cumbrian ancestors.

The Societ��s Trustee Board has a Risk Register that identifies the major risks to the charit� fulfilling its objecti�es and purpose. These are re�ie�ed t�ice per �ear, and it is a d�namic document.
The Societ� has in place policies and s�stems of internal controls that are designed to pro�ide, as far as is reasonabl� practicable, assurance against material mismanagement or loss including financial controls and insurance policies to ensure that insurable risks are co�ered.

The objects of the Societ� are:
(a) to promote and encourage the public stud� of British famil� histor�, genealog�, heraldr�, and local histor� �ith particular but not e�clusi�e, reference to persons li�ing in or associated �ith the count� of Cumbria, the historical counties of Cumberland, Westmorland, Lancashire north of the Sands and the Sedbergh area of Yorkshire. (b) to promote the preser�ation, securit�, and accessibilit� of archi�al material.
Summar� of the main acti�ities in relation to these objecti�es:
T�o 1-da� conferences and one 3-da� residential conference are held each �ear �ith talks in person b� Famil� Histor� e�perts.
Famil� Histor� e�perts gi�e regular talks using �ideo conference soft�are to reach members based throughout the �orld.
Additional acti�ities: Weekl� help offered in Carlisle archi�es.
A quarterl� Ne�sletter is produced and issued.
A �ebsite and Facebook Group are used as a communication tool.

The Societ� meets the Charit� Commission�s public benefit through the education of people and the preser�ation of and access to historical documents.

Achie�emen�s and performance
Summar� of the main achie�ements during the �ear:
The Societ� has held three �ell attended conferences this �ear. The first a da� conference in Seascale; the second a da� conference in Burton-in-Kendal incorporating the Annual General Meeting and a three da� residential conference at Crooklands. Alongside these conferences fi�e Zoom meetings ha�e been held �ith speakers.
The Societ� has attended one Famil� Histor� Fair in York. The ne� Transcriptions Officer has no� a good team of Transcribers and ne� transcriptions are being �orked on for publication.
Our ne� Website �as launched in October thanks to our ne� Webmaster and the benefits are �e no� ha�e full control and can modif� and add to it as required.

The Societ� should hold a minimum of �60,000 in its reser�es reflecting the a�erage potential risks (that is, not all risk/opportunit� �ill happen at the same time) in relation to the income collections s�stems, �ebsite replacement and potential closure costs or allo�ing the Societ� opportunities to contribute to the purchase of significant
- documents or pro�ide match contributions to other organisations projects �hich fall �ithin the scope of the Charit��s objecti�es.

Further financial re�ie� details: Our principal source of funds is from our membership subscriptions and from sales of publications. Conferences and e�ents are e�pected to break-e�en.

The Societ� Trustee Board regularl� monitors the bank balances and the interest rates recei�ed to ensure the societ� obtains ma�imum �alue and income from its banking arrangements. Before major e�penditure the council discusses and agrees the le�el and reason for spend and �erifies that cashflo� is a�ailable.
