Finance
Guiding is excellent value for money. The financial year for Girlguiding Central Glamorgan runs from 1st January to 31st December. The expenses of Girlguiding Central Glamorgan are met by county subscriptions on the members each year, charitable activity and donations. The subscription is based on the anticipated expenditure budget for the next financial year and the number of members registered in the current year. Grant aid from local authorities unfortunately is no longer. Support is also available to enable all girls – regardless of ability or financial circumstance – to get involved with guiding. The charity awards grants to both individuals and groups, each application is reviewed and assessed on a case by case basis. This funding is utilised to meet the charity's objectives. The Gorwelion Committee are charged with raising the money required for the maintenance of Gorwelion. The fees charged are calculated to cover normal running costs with any surplus used for improvement of the facilities. Grant funding and donations and charitable activities are also used to support the maintenance and developments of Gorwelion.
All accounts are subject to independent scrutiny by a person qualified to undertake this task.
County Property
Gorwelion, at Wigfach near Porthcawl . This owned by Girlguiding Central Glamorgan. It is registered with the Girlguiding UK Trust Corporation. The County Executive Committee members are the managing trustees for this property. The property consists of an indoor holiday building and two campsites. The site is equipped with all the facilities required of a holiday centre and campsite. There is a Management Committee which oversees the day to day operation of Gorwelion and the Chairperson, who is appointed by the County Commissioner, reports to the Executive Committee on a regular basis. Gorwelion has its own constitution. Adequate insurance cover is taken out each year and the level of cover required is reviewed annually or when required. The committee fundraising efforts are to maintain Gorwelion and to provide better facilities for those who use it.
County Commissioners Report 2022
2022 has been the year of being back together. The year started with restrictions still in place and risk assessments an ongoing process but Guiding in the county continued. Guiding in Central Glamorgan was determined to stay alive and vibrant. Guiding is about fun, adventure, meeting new people and learning. Its about working together towards a common standard and 2022 was a busy year. One of celebration and reflection, national, Welsh and county events, Divisional events and not forgetting unit events/meetings.
The year started off with Girlguiding Cymru offering some of our Guides and Rangers to participate in sessions at the national climbing centre Nelson. Over 30 girls took up this opportunity. World thinking day pack it’s a palindrome 2202-2022 pack and badge was designed and used. The Queen Diamond Jubilee was celebrated with the launch of a design a badge competition and activity pack produced full of ideas, also a county campfire, Divisional events, unit tea parties were held.
Girlguiding Cymru and the Welsh cricket association team up and produced an activity pack. Local cricket clubs opened their doors to our members and some members went to Sophire Gardens for an evening of cricket with the Glamorgan cricket team . An added bonus was 2 Central Glamorgan Guides and our Deputy Chief commissioner got interviewed by the Welsh news. Also, a member from Cowbridge Rainbows was seen on facebook promoting the GGUK event in conjunction with odean cinema for Matilda.
Camps and holidays, day events returned and leaders gained their going away with qualification. With international slow to progress GG Central Glamorgan went to wellies and wrist bands in Foxlease.
Ensuring our leaders have the right qualifications and resources is paramount. Training have been held using a blended approach. Ensuring flexibility and accessibility. The mandatory training continues. Other sessions have included food hygiene, program planning, sharing of skills. From face to face training informal spontaneous training have occurred. Drop in sessions for leaders to complete their ALQ books which have been productive. During National Volunteer week 1-7 June Interlink recognised Girlguiding and some leaders were presented with certificates of thanks.
Some leaders during 2022 took on personal challenges and supported other charities. Also units worked in partnership with organisations one being the Amelia Trust farm Christmas tree appeal.
Membership continues to grow and the program is now embedded. Duke of Edinburgh award scheme continues to thrive. A Young leader weekend at Gorwelion was successful.
Gorwelion – Our County Guiding Home By the sea opened. Its been great to visit the site and see our members enjoying the out of doors. With the place back in use we have been able to ask the question – what do you want to see happen in Gorwelion and what needs to be done. Gorwelion through 2022 was used to celebrate as a county.
