Achievements and performance

Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 2020 was an unprecedented year to every
individual and organisation, DCWA was not
exempted.
Close to the first quarter of 2020, the centre
was completely closed due to national
lockdown. All our activities were suspended.
However, our work did not stop. We
managed to contact the Chinese Embassy
in Manchester to donate over 1000 face
masks to our centre and we manage to
distribute them to all our members.
In June 2020, we also received another
2000 face masks from Hong Kong Rural
Committee (Heung Yee Kuk) for the original
residents of New Territories. Since majority
of the members are original residents from
the New Territories, a lots of our members
and qualified people in Derby city and its
nearby areas were benefited.
During lockdown period, we continued
providing services to our members using
online services. Wehelped senior members

to renew their driving licences at their 70. We helped members to make vaccination booking. We supported the Census 21 to promote the national census. The centre coordinator continued attending online meeting with local council and hate crime groups.

At the end of 2020, we successful secured a funding from Lottery Fund to support us to run the “Reduce Isolation for the Elderly Chinese During Covid 19 in Derbyshire” . During Covid-19, our centre was not able to organise the regular luncheon meeting and festival dinner celebration. Most elderly Chinese rather staying at home on their own in order to protect themselves and others. They had missed the opportunity to socialise with their old friends and enjoy traditional Chinese food. However, after a long period of isolation, most of them had experienced emotional and mental stress. In order to help those elderly Chinese to fight against isolation. We organised 4 rounds of food supplies distributions that included rice, noodles, vegetables, oil, soy sauce, fruits etc. By doing this, we had helped around 100 elderly Chinese and families in Derbyshire to reduce the sufferings of selfisolation and feel being cared during the pandemic.

In Feb 2021, we set up a Whatsapp group for members for easy communication. Basically, most of the activities were back to normally in early 2021 except for the large event such as luncheon meeting and Chinese New Year celebration. We still have to be cautious since the Covid situation is still unstable.
