The charity is self funding and relies on income from its investments.
Investment policy
The Trustees are advised by a professional fund manager.
Reserves policy
All the funds are unrestricted. The Trustees would normally pay Grants equivalent to their investment income.
Free reserves at the year and were £184,642 (2024: £194,774).

The Trustees present their annual report and receipts and payments account for the year ended 5th April 2025.
Structure, Governance & Management
a) Constitution
The Atherton Trust was Constituted by a Trust Deed dated 28 September 1984 and updated 18 December 2013, 29 May 2015 and January 2018. The Charity’s registered number is 515220. b) Method of appointment of Trustees
Trustees are appointed by the existing Trustees at the Annual Meeting normally in May each year. Trustees can he co-opted at any time during the year.
Charitable Objectives
The charities objectives were updated in January 2018 to reflect current social circumstances and community needs.
Charitable Objectives to January 2018
The objectives of the charity are to give financial support for the benefit of those resident in the parishes of Pontesbury and Hanwood and the village areas of Annscroft and Hook-a-Gate for the following purposes; the making of a grant to a deserving case from loss of parent, husband or child, sickness or accident and to assist children of energy in improving their chance of earning a livelihood; to those incapacitated through affliction of mind or body and the dependents of such; to institutions who give or agree to give when required succour and services to people unfortunate enough to require aid by loss of sight, limb or heaith by accident or inevitable causes; to aid persons who through no fault of their own are unable to meet urgent obligations.
Charitable Objectives post January 2018
The objects of the charity are to provide grants in the parishes of Pontesbury and Hanwood and the village areas of Annscroft and Hook-a-Gate to:

1 relieve financial hardship for persons living in the area of benefit who are in need; 2 relieve sickness for persons;

promote, for the benefit of the inhabitants, the provision of facilities for recreation or other

3 leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances with the object of improving their conditions of life; and
-
4 provide support for young and disadvantaged people to develop skills, capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals.
Review of activities and achievements
The Trustees receive applications for grants from organisations and individuals. During the year, grants totalling £6,471 were awarded to organisations and those to individuals totalled £2,490. In reviewing the grant applications for the year, the Trustees have considered the Charity Commission's revised guidance on public benefit and awarded grants accordingly.

As the charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the audit requirement of the Charities Act 2011 (The Act).
