Notes
During the period from March 2022 to March 2023, Rolleston Scout Group completed the extension of the HQ building, funded through a combination of reserves from historical fundraising, the VIP programme, and a loan from the District.
The vision is to repay the loan through a mix of future fundraising events and activities. This approach will ensure a sustainable income stream, enabling Scouting to serve the community by providing groups and organizations with a meeting space in a semi-rural setting where such facilities are scarce.
Our membership remains strong and is growing, with 178 young people now participating in Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts, and an additional 40 adults involved in roles including leadership and the Executive Committee. With a healthy waiting list, our growth strategy includes expanding sections and recruiting leaders. We plan to open additional meeting nights to accommodate the increased demand for places in the newly extended HQ building.
With the easing of Covid restrictions, we resumed our usual fundraising events by the end of the 2022/23 year, maintaining success with £25-£35k raised annually, akin to pre-pandemic levels. These efforts, combined with meeting room and caravan club rentals, have kept the Rolleston Scout Group accessible to all, continuing to offer every child the adventure that Scouting promises.
Rolleston Scouts will uphold financial prudence by maintaining a minimum reserve of £50k, enough to cover a full year's operating costs. This will safeguard the group against any constraints in fundraising event operations, thereby ensuring that Scouting activities can proceed without disruption.
