TRUSTEES REPORT TO THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING HELD ON 9 MARCH, 2026.

The centre continues to flourish and is home to many diverse groups from amateur dramatics to various types of dance & even classes for babies. All of these groups are very satisfied with the facilities on offer but often don’t realise the background work that goes on to keep the building in working order.

Like many organisations the centre is run by volunteers who give up a lot of time & effort to keep the centre running smoothly. We are desperately short of more people to assist.

During the year the former nursery room has been transformed into a meeting room & is now well used for that purpose, although it can quickly be transformed to suit other purposes. Repairs to the building, which will be 120 years old in 2026 continue to take up a lot of time & money. For example:

the ladies toilets desperately need to be refurbished & the other toilet facilities also need attention.
there are leaks in the roof which need urgent repair
the ceiling tiles in the lounge are loose & need to be replaced at a cost of approximately £11k,
a new defibrillator will be required next year

The Premises licence has been upgraded to a full licence so that boxing & other events can take place without a temporary licence being required.

The local food bank continues to utilise a freezer in one of the garages for storage of surplus food to save it from landfill.

Bank balances remain healthy but ongoing & unforeseen expenditure needs to be taken into account when extra equipment is requested.

Many thanks from the trustees to the volunteers who work hard to make the centre attractive to everyone.
