We had lo adapt lo the scopE of service thanges and the additional demands on our Servi due lo the itnp&A of owners struggling lo afford the basic care for their pets. We submitted 88 case files lo our prosecuti( team during 2024, the majority ol which concluded in successfijl Dulcrxnes in court. The prosecution departtllenl plays an essential rde in supky)rting the InSpate wlh case investigati5 the Prosecution Case Managers al headquarters have provided guidance ihroughoul the yea to g)SUTe that our case files are submitted lo the highest of standards. Phil Brown and colleagues of Freernan Brown Solicilors have woseoJteYJ LEhalf of the RSPCA for cases in the South Yorkshire area and we are very grateful for the excdlenl Servi they have provided. ARO Neil C(Aeman is transferring lo our group from the Derby I Slaffordshire group in March. The group also tEnefits from the help of Animal Rescue Volunteers who assist us with the (lleCtIOn of sick and injured animals which they do in their own lime. We have a Committ group of ARVS and their contribution is very much appreciated. WORK OVERVIEW 11,443 work orders were dosed by South Yorkshire offi(Ers during 2024. A work Lyder is an &tion on an incident so il can vary from one work order lo rnulliple work orders each inadenl. We were all dated to see the dosure of Infidd Lane Allotrnenls in Damai, Sheffield after many, many years of dealing with issues on the sile. The sile was made up of 210 allotrnents, tnany of which housed dotneslic animals or livesloK*. We have worked tirelessly alongside the I1 authority and tK)liceforovera decaje deafing with anirnalwelfa issues and criminal tivity. We have successfully prosecul&J several allolmenl owners and have remov numerws animals from the sile. To give you an idea ol the scale of the animal wdfare problems we encountered, over the rkricKi 2021-2024, 346 animals were removed IrDm the sile by the RSPCA, l(Thl authorities and the poli. The nurnLEr of animds Temoved over Ihe past 10 or rnLYe years will double or treble this number so you can imagine our relief when the site was finally dosLxJ! The multi-agency working on Ihis sile shows just imtKKknl building gcKMJ partnerships wrth other agencies can benefit animal Weare. The cost ol living crisis has continued to have a massive impact on animal welfare as some people are allY slnjggling financially. As a resuli, we have seen an increase in requests lor assistance with veterinary bills and rehoming of tEls as tEople can no longer afford lo keep them. We have dealt with many Incidents where animas Ihalwould usually trk wdl cared for have beèn neglected due lo their owners not knowing where lo go lor help. Wherever possiLle we have tried lo assist struggling pEI owners by providing help towards veterinary care, often by issuing a weware assistan voucher that C be uSj at the ownerfs vet of th(¥. Where wssible we also offer rehoming and transportation lo assist owners who are erwnlering mqor diffi¢ufties, however the increase in the volume of animals requiring space al our alrealy stretch1 branches and PBE'S has been very drfficull lo navigate al limes. We have also wnlinued with our Pel F&JJ Bank Serv1 in the (unty, providing ttt f(KKJ lo Io(MJ banks in the Sheffield, Doncaster, Rolherham and Barnsley areas. The tEifo(MJ bank project in the north of England has gone from strength to strength and has provid&J vital support and assistance to Fel owners dunng these limes of financial crisis. The schem2 has kept many animals in loving hornes and reduced the l[llpt of the cost of living crisis on struggling owners. As a group we continue lo carry out proactive work al every orwrtunity, neutering as many animals as we can.
