Objectives and activities The principal obieclives of the society are lo advance the education of the mentally handicapped, to promote the prevention and development of mental health and to foster mutual help and co-operation between parents, guardians. relatives and friend5 01 the mentally handicapped The main activity of the society which Is the provision of a club In which the mentally handicapped can participate and express themselves, helps their wellbeing and contributes to their care. The Iruslees have had regard lo the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit and consider the provision of the club meets this criteria. Structure govgrnancp and management The society Is registered as a charity Iregislered number 5052381 and is consliluted under a trust ¢Jeed adopted 14 July 1976. The society is managed by the executive ¢omrnittee who are elected by the members of the $o¢iely. The Iruslees who have served during the year and since the year end are sel out on page 1, tether with the address of the society. New Iruslees are recruited and appointed as the Iruslees feel appropriate. Achlevements and perfom)ance The society has continued lo provide facilities to members during the year. Activity levels have risen compared with the previous year however are still Significantly reduced In comparison lo years before the Covid-19 pandemic. The society provide$ a club, Ihe Smelhwick Mencap Social Club, lo provide a safe gnvironmenl in which member5 can meel. take part in activities and enjoy social inieraclion In an environment suitable lo their needs. The society also sponsors the annual Smelhwick Challenge bicycle ride in which members can participate. The principal source of funding has been rent received ffom the lelling ol the flats al Greenlawns and the mencap social club general and entertainment fund. Further fvnds were received from donations and gifts Financial roviow The fesulls lor the year are set out in the Statement of receipts and payments on page 5. The financial year lo 31 Dember 2021 has shown an increase in the reserves of the charity compared with the previous year. The charity has conlinued lo suffer from the Covid-19 pandemic and the various nationwide actions taken by the Government. Activity was beginning lo return throughout the year
