Objectives and activities
The principal obieclives of the society are lo advance the education of the mentally handicapped, to
promote the prevention and development of mental health and to foster mutual help and co-operation
between parents, guardians. relatives and friend5 01 the mentally handicapped
The main activity of the society which Is the provision of a club In which the mentally handicapped can
participate and express themselves, helps their wellbeing and contributes to their care.
The Iruslees have had regard lo the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit and consider the
provision of the club meets this criteria.
Structure govgrnancp and management
The society Is registered as a charity Iregislered number 5052381 and is consliluted under a trust ¢Jeed
adopted 14 July 1976.
The society is managed by the executive ¢omrnittee who are elected by the members of the $o¢iely.
The Iruslees who have served during the year and since the year end are sel out on page 1,
t￿ether with the address of the society. New Iruslees are recruited and appointed as the Iruslees
feel appropriate.
Achlevements and perfom)ance
The society has continued lo provide facilities to members during the year. Activity levels have risen
compared with the previous year however are still Significantly reduced In comparison lo years before
the Covid-19 pandemic.
The society provide$ a club, Ihe Smelhwick Mencap Social Club, lo provide a safe gnvironmenl in
which member5 can meel. take part in activities and enjoy social inieraclion In an environment suitable
lo their needs. The society also sponsors the annual Smelhwick Challenge bicycle ride in which
members can participate.
The principal source of funding has been rent received ffom the lelling ol the flats al Greenlawns and
the mencap social club general and entertainment fund. Further fvnds were received from donations
and gifts
Financial roviow
The fesulls lor the year are set out in the Statement of receipts and payments on page 5.
The financial year lo 31 D￿ember 2021 has shown an increase in the reserves of the charity compared
with the previous year.
The charity has conlinued lo suffer from the Covid-19 pandemic and the various nationwide actions
taken by the Government. Activity was beginning lo return throughout the year

Unrestricted funds are mainiained al a level lo ensure It has adequate reserves lo continue lo pursue ils
objectives and help In any projects lo be undertaken or provide assistance lo other associated charities.
Future plans
The Iruslees intend lo continue the current strategy of providing support through to provision of mutual
support Including co-operation be￿een parents. guardians. relatives and friends ol the mentally
handicapped based around the Smelhwick Mencap Social Club.

A resolution lo reappoint M W Hunt of Bass Hunt & Co LLP as independent examiner of this society will
be pul to the executive committee al Ihe annual general meetin9.

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 De￿rnber 2021 which are set out on page$ 5

Respective responslbilities of the trustee and the Independent examiner
The charity's Iruslees are responsible for the preparation of the 8c¢ounls. The charity's Iruslees consider
that an audit Is not required this year under sectson 14412} of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Acl) and that
an Independent examination is needed.

The balance due to S P Tong al 31 December 2021 was £6.45312020: £3,188).
The Iruslee 15 a director of Greenlawns Alpha RTM Company Limited who provide Servi￿ Charoes
and collect ground renl on the flats. Ground rent and service charges during the year amounted lo
£2,48012020 £2,480) The balance due al 31 December 2021 was £12.40012020' £9,920)
No remuneration Of expenses were paid to the trustee during the year.
The Iruslee collects and holds rental income on behalf of the charity. The amount held at 31
December 2021 has been included in bank balances.
