The project encourages members lo engage in social and NbEllbeing activities in the community through tsilored programrne that indudes promoting and facilitating being in nature. exercise, crafts, healthy eating. cullural wsits etc. A key feabjre of the project is the peer SLSPPOrt element. largely achwed through weekly coffee and chal sessions, which are facilitated by a Connect stsff member. Whilst the building has been closed due initially to Cowd 19 ar subsequenvy due to the redevefopment of the ground ffoor of Cu5tsns House. the project has been deKvered through using 8 variety of community venues. ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE During the year ended 31 March 2022. the organisation has continld to build upon existing strength5. Swansea Community Fridge has continued to buibj on tts success of redueing f¢)od waste and tsckling fcKx1 povety by promding flesh. high quality. healthy food. on a.pay as you feel" basis. Our Comrnunity Fridge played a key role in food provision to the people of Swansea thfoughcxrt the Covt&19 pandemic arKI beyorKI. and distributed over 16 tOrS of f(M)d in 2021-22. Food supply during the year suffered from turtlence, largety due to suppty chain issues. despite this, the service was delivered every week, wthout fail, proving to be a lifeline for many. During the year. in additK)n lo its weekly Wednesday servlce. the project underto)k pop-up events offsrte in drfferent communities. This was very well received by the communib.es concemed. aThJ has hdped to extend the name & reputation. and reach arKI impact of the Communty Fridge. Data fiorn the annual Community Fridge customer survey conducted in December 2021 showed that the number of $tomerS who were not accessing a food bank was 82%. which was a sharp increase from 68% in the previous survey in Oecember 2020. For these indivrduals. th8 Community Fridge was their only source of food assistance. The team were successful in securing signtfi¢ant grant fvnding during th8 pgriod from mumiplg different granlslsources. Most notab of which was from Welsh Govemment Food Povety Grant. Amongst other things. llis paid for the ¢realiLNI of a trainiWcommunity krtdn on the ground fioor of Customs House. In addition. Ihe prcyecl had success in securing a 9Tant of £10.000 from the Nab"onal Lottetys Together for Ou Planet fund, which Clncided with COP26, to run additional community event5 over the course of 2022. Thesè are principalty aimed at local communitses vthich will be affectsd by dimale change and its impact on sea bevels. The project further enhanced 115 environmentsl centIalS during the period, not just by In¢asIng the amount of food saved from lar[111. but also by introducing a Washab ¢loth bag s¢hwne for ¢uslomers_ The re-u$abl8 bags are made by volunteers out of unwanted, pre-used fab. The surplus achieved in 2020-21 was £209.751. £156,356 added to unrestricted reserves. During that year restricted reserves in¢r¢a$ed by £53.395. The group generated an overall surplus equivalent to 10.6% of tolal income in 2021.22 (the equivalent figure in 2021>21 was 6.8%).
