Trustees, Annual Re ort for the ear ended 31" December 2023 'or Activities and Achievements in the eriod The Group, which has been in continuous existence since 1938, is part of the Scout Association of the United Kingdom. The Group is a registered charity. A governing document explains how the charity is set up, and how it should operate. In the Scouts, federation of charities, the governing document is referred to as a 'constitution'. The Group follows the Association's progressive training scheme to help young people from the age of 4yrs up to 14yrs to achieve their individual potentials and to become responsible citizens. Training is coupled with having fun. Badges and awards are presented as they complete various tasks within the training programme. At the beginning of the period the Group's registered membership with the Scout Assoclatlon was 110 young members (Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts & Young Leaders) plus 18 Adult Leaders, Assistant Leaders and Skills Instructors: a total of 128. At the end of the period membership was 125 young members and 20 Adult Leaders: a totsl of 145. The Group remains one of the largest in the District. Additionally, there are 10 ex-officio, nominated or co-opted non-uniformed adult Trustees. All adults in the Group are unpaid. All activities, as well as costs of running the Headquarters and purchase of equipment are funded via subs received from parents and fvn-raising activities undertaken by the Group. Young members attend meetings and activities organised by their Sections and by the Group as a whole. They also participate in activities with members of other Groups in the Blackwater Valley Scout Distrlct. Our Annual General Meeting on 10th May 2023 was held at our Scout Hut. Numerous badges and awards have been presented. Social artivlties and camps have included Group Jamboree, Sprin& Coronation, Summer and Autumn camps. The Group was also able to run a Christmas Shopping Evening in December and helped at the Lakeside Fun Day, Wheels Days and Christmas Fantasia. We had a trip to the Pantomime and held our Group Carol Service at St Marfs Church. The Group prides itself on the harmonious relationship that exists between all the adults, both uniformed and non-uniformed. It has a record of retaining these adults, some of whose years of seNice are in double figures. The Group held a Fund-raising Quiz Evening during 2023, which raised £1,072.45 for the Scout Group and an additional £500 to send to the Disasters Emergency Committee, for those sufferin8 in the Turkey & Syria Earthquake. The Guildford Lottery support also continues. A donation of £2,250 was received from Surrey Street Rodders and other donations were recelved totalllng £2,887.53. For the last few years. the Scout Group has been fundraising and developing plans to demolish its existing dilapidated Scout Hut on its premises in Ash Vale and replace it with a new Scout Headquarters. A bid for a sum of money from Your Fund Surre. to realise this ambition has reached the final Stage of the application proces5. The bid has very Strong local community and business support, along With that of the Parish Council and our MP. A stron8 element of the bid includes using the buildlng during the day time, when the Scout Group are not using it, for community wellbeing artivlty. This too, has the support of several groups and organisations that undertake such activities. With the very large number of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts. Brownies and Guides usin8 the building each week, and the community activity. the bid is very strong. An announcement on the status of the bid will be made at the AGM. The Group is a Trust established under rules that are common to all Groups within the Scout A550ciation and Trustees are appointed in accordance with the Policy, Organisation and Rules of the Association. The Accounts have been drawn up on a Receipts and Payments basis, which is consistent with the previous year. It is believed that they show a sound financial position with adequate reserves for normal artivities. Approved by the Tru5tee5 on: .. Signed on their behalf by: Richard Lucas (Chairperson)
