3 Sudbur Grou Chairmans, Re ort I am delighted to be able to report another successful yeai. for the Group. We have ended the financial year with a surplus. Tliis is iinportant because having money in the bank enables us to fAmd inany elements of scouting, confident in the Iinowledge th&t it is affordable. In addition, a reasonable level of reserves means that we are well placed to meet the variety of financial challenges that will inevitably come our way. I recently took a long loolc at the archive pictures of when the HQ was constructed in the late 1980's. A herculean task of lld raising and physical labour. The project cost aroiind £250k which is equivalent to £650k in today's money. The Members involved at the time had a Visio and it is to their credit that the Group wntinues to prosper in a facility which delivers so well. That said, we should not rest on our laurels. It is vital to keep the building and assets in prime condition so that current and thture generations of young people can reap the benefit8 of scoiiting in Sudbvry. In my layt report I started a conversation about oiir project to replace tbe climbing wall. We have madc cxcellcnt progress. We have raised all the Jnoney required from a range of ant Inaking bodies, local organisations, as well as some excellent donations from OLW members. The new walls - main wall and traverse wall, will be installed in August so that wc are ready to climb when WG rcturn to scouting in Scptember. This project demonstrates what is possible, and whilst nothing like as challenging as the new HQ, it shows that this Group has a passion to keep driving forward and deliver the best scouting GXPCTienc¢s that thGy can. It just remains for me to thank everyone involved in making 3, Siidbury such a successful aud vibrant group. It is inspiring to be around such a dedicated team of volunteers either delivering scoiiting on the front line or working in the backgmimd to keep the Group safe, secure and financially resilent. Graharn Toy 3, Sudbur Beavers B Colon Herc we are again at the end of tllother year as our Colony celebiates its second birthday. During that time, we have been very busy Beavers working towards many badges and challenge awards resulting in no less than 9 Bronze awards since our last presentation night! Our programmes have been many and varied, including visits (metaphorically) to Cbina and India, aniongst othcrs. We also had an evening organis1 by the Explorers who went on the jainboree to South Korea, thank you lads. We have had visits to the fire station and fire fighters visiting us. Also, the Beavers have been cool(ing, cake making for charity? doing craft and have cclebrnted VB Day.
We liave also had a day camp at Bradfield with the Wednesday Colony as well as 2 sleepovers including a Clristmas one. The Beaver8 liave also been canoeing aiid been out on Kingfisher, thanlcs to the Sea Scout Lcadcrs and of coill7e aicliery. We could not do this alon¢ so we would like to talce this opportunity to thank Mary and Icate for their ongoing help on a Friday, to our yoiing Leaders Grace and Torn who show maturity beyond their yec1rs, to Ann for filling in while we are away and to Cathy for her continiied support and advice. But, most of all to the parents who bring dieir children along week after weelc and to the Beavers themselves without whom we woiild have nothing to do on a Friday evening. Yvonne (Otter) and Andy Oops, nearly forgot, hiige thanks to the Tnistees foi. our flag which was dedicated at tbis year's Saiiit Georgc's Day Parade. 3" Sudbur C Pacli C Pack Cubs have enjoyed another year of Scouting activitics, building on earliGr experiences and gaining confidence in themselves whilst learning new skills. Beavers have moved into the Pack and Cubs have moved onto Scouts or Sea Scouts throughoiit the year, but the size of thc Pack has remained at 28 Cubs. We have been working on a range of badges such as the Personal Safety Badge and followed this up with a visit to the Sudbury police station where the Cubs were able to sit in the police vehicles, see the prison cells and see how fingerprints are taken. The Air Activities badge was popular with Cubs l¢arning how to make paper acroplancs and working out ways that they could be adapted to increase the aero dynamics and improve flight length. We attended the Quay Theatre's Christmas production of Scrooge's Christsnas Carol where the Cubs enjoyed some audience participatioL We learnt about the Chinese New Year and had a go at eating with chopsticks, tried cliinbing and archery, visited the fire station and Worl( towards the Fire Safety badge, enjoyed cooking and eating pancakes, learnt about DIY tools, their IeS and used som¢ of them to malce a key holder to achieve the DIY badge and finished the Spring terni with an Easter egg hunt. Camps have been enjoyed with D Pack Cubs where the Cubs have had the opportunity to enj oy new and adVenturol activities and work on team building. We are now looking forward to the better weather for OL summer prornme of fire lighting, backwoods cooking, canoeing, pioneering, tent pitchin& hiking and learning about India from Hary, one of our leaders, who recently visited the county. WG knve been very pleased to award several Cubs with their Silver Chief Scout Award which is the highest award a Cub can achieve.
A big tliEll]k you to the leadership team - Lewis, Hatty, Rosie, Doi'othy, Mark, Liam, John, Sally, withoiit whofn the Cubs woiild not be able t'o experience such a wide and varied programme. Also, tliallk you to all the parents wbo come and help us with various activities when we need that little bit of extra help. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Alcela - Tcate 3 Sudbu D Pack We currently have 20 paid up Cub members and 2 Beaver8 moving up this month. Megan and myself are the section leaders, along with Gavin, Jim and Simon as section assistants. Issy and Will often tLrn UP to providc additional hclp with activities, Evic is helping when back froin Uni 8nd our Young leader Emily HP is helping regularly and is a great help wlien running games and activities. Iqaving a consistent, reliable team has been great this year and means the r¢sponsibility and oaniZation can be shared out. As you can see by our Accounts, they contillue to look healthy and balanced. As cost h&ve rigen when rnnning Camps etc we have had to pass this the Cubs which may affect the numbers that can attend. Leading up to Cliristu]as 2024 we did have a parent cornment on how many activiti&s that had all additional payment such as attending the Panto and a winter Cub CEmp. We have taken this on board and decided not to arrange activities that will inci additional paymenty for a while. We have had a full year providing lots of activities for the Cubs in the Pack, Last spring we made bird fccdcrs which was a Iiit a[ goillg to be repeated this May. We spent an evening teaching the Cubs to light fires and worked on the Safety awareness badge. The annual Bike ride was another SUccs, and we provlded refreshments at Rodbridge so the Cubs had the energy foT the retLirn trip. In lune Nick gave the Cubs the opportLmity to tr&vel up the river on tbe Safety boat, Kingfisher while the other half of the group did Archery in the Scout huL swapping over the following week. We did another 2 weeks of water activity in Jidy when Issy and Will took Cubs in the cano¢s, and I toolc the half on a trail and again swapping over a couple of weeks later. We appreciate other Sectioii Leaders giving up their free evening to give the Cubs the opportmities to use the facilities 3, Sudbury have. In July there was the District Cub camp at Hallowtrees, Ipswich. We teanied up with C Pack to share the facilities. I organised the food and you can see payments from C Pack into the account for this. The camp was expensive but there was a lot of activities available such as Air rifle shooting, obstacle course and circus skills. Despite the weather we had a good time. Leading up to Christrnas we did some balcing, crafts and cookie decorations along with the annual trip to the Panto at the Quay theatre along with C Pack.
At the start of 2025 we woiked on the ScI1Ce badge, runiiing several expei'iments, making the eqiuvalellt to Iva lamps, corn flour gloop and cleaning coins with lemon jiiice. Andy and Yvonne have very kindly 2 archery sessions for us along with Jlln. Siinon has run an evening working on map skills and making COTnpasses. We have tiied a new sport wh I was able to borrow soft tennis eqillpmellt forjn the Tennis Cliib next door and run an intt'oductoiy session. There was ball everywherel We have just run a I night 'Spac¢' themed CEunp at Bradfield where t]ie w¢ather was very kind to us, We liad 12 Cubs attend and plenty of Leaders cnpIng under c]vaS. Magan arrallged some onsite activities Climbing, Cresta run and the Maze, we also had a campfire and wallc. This concludes our report on the Accounts for our Cub Pack. I happy to answer ]Y further questions if you have any.
