Sth17th BEXLEYHEATH SCOUT GROUP TRUSTEE BOARD'S ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2024 The 2023124 year, which has been a busy one, has come to a close. The leaders have provided the various groups of young people with a fun filled program of activities. The numbers of young people in all sections have remained steady, with the Leadership team working well together for the good of the young people and the fun of Scouting. The Group continues to have one Scout Troop, Cub packs and two Beaver colonies. Currently Tracy May is leader of the 5th Beaver Colony, supported by Chris Parker, Assistant Leader and Jim Charles. However, al the end of the 2024. Both Tracy May and Chris Parker will be leaving. Revd Jim Charles has kindly agreed to take on the role of Leader but will need some assistance and support. Once again we would like to thank them for all their hard work, support and commitment to their group and scouting over many, many years and wish them both well in the future. Jackie Hall continues to run the 7th Beaver Colony as Beaver Scout Leader, with support from Julie Huyler & Andra Raduca as Sectional Assistants and Lucy Fortt as Young Leader. Andra joined us in February 2024 after Jo Joyce, Sectional Assistant, decided to leave due to family commitments. We would like to thank Jo for all her hard work and support. Michelle Swann, Will Koopman and Vicky Cox run 5th Cub Pack, with assistance from young leader, Matthew Swann. Sadly, due to other commitments, at the end of last term, Vicky stepped down from the role. Can I thank Vicky for all of her help and support over the recent years and wish her well in the future. Sue Fomard runs 7th Cub Pack with help from Chris Aldridge, Nicki Thomas runs the Scout troop, assisted regularly by Michelle Swann, Anthony Descombes and young leaders Liam Burley and Lucy Oxley. Sadly, we say farewell to Julia Strike, the Group Treasurer. Julia has held the role for many, many years and has done an amazingjob supporting the leaders and managing the accounts for everyone. Thank you to Julia for all her help and support and we all wish her well. As a result, two parents have agreed to take over the role, sharing responsibilities. Thank you Brij Mohan and Kirsty Sharp for taking on the role. We must also offer our thanks and say goodbye to Jeff Hazell, our Secretary, who is resigning after many years also. He has given up so much of his time and has been very committed not only in the governance side of the role but has also been very much involved in looking after the 5th Scout Hall. We want to wish him well in his future. Patricia Berry, who has been doing our minutes, will be stepping into the Secretary role. The transfer from Beavers to Cubs works well with a link period and joint activities, and the Iransfer from Cubs to Scouts (a crucial time when we often lose members) is also encouraged with combined activities, such as camps. Our Scout Troop remains strong and, although we have regular help from parents, additional leaders are always needed to give the Scouts the best experience possible. if anyone would be interested in becoming a leader, please do let us know. Once our Scouts reach the age of 14-15, they move on to Explorer Units and many of our Scouts are making this transition. Some of our Scouts have expressed an interest in doing the Young Leaders Training course which is great. Leader training continues to be run by The County Training Team and all our leaders are encouraged to keep their training up to date. Page 1
5th17th BEXLEYHEATH SCOUT GROUP TRUSTEE BOARD'S ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2024 {Continued) All sections are running a variety of activities and completing badges as part of the programme The 5th 17th Scout Group remains one of the most active and supportive Groups within the Bexley Scout District, supporting many of the events organised by the District or Black Prince SASU. Both parts of the Group have a good relationship with "their" church. In a normal year, there are regular Church Parades and we encourage parents to ensure their child attends where possible. As a Church affiliated Group attendance at Parade is expected by all members although we do understand that family commitments or attendance at another Church may sometimes make this difficult. Parents are also very welcome to stay and join in the services. The Board of Trustees meets regularly and ensures that the Group is run according to Scout and Charity Commission Rules and we give our thanks to them for their support. We are always keen to have parents join the Board of Trustees to bring their thoughts and support, and are always on the lookout to recruit more. It is likely that there will be maintenance to be carried out in the coming year, and we may need help from parents and volunteers for larger jobs. We have a list of parents who have volunteered in the past to help with these jobs and we will gladly call on you when the need arises. As you may notice, the hall is in need of some TLC. Can l ask that parents with skills in key areas (carpenters, builders, plumbers, landscaping) make themselves known to the leaders. In conclusion, we would like to thank all members of the Group, children, parents, friends, Trustees and Leaders for their support during this year. We must not forget the reason why the Scout Group is here - it is all about our young people in Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. They are the future and by taking part in the opportunities on offer, the activities we hold and the events we organise, we know that they learn a little more about themselves and their abilities. However, without parents to encourage them, we would not be able to make such a positive impact in our community. Can l once again thank the leaders for all the time and effort put in to ensure that all our young people have an amazing experience during their time in scouting. Can l also thank all the parents who assist when the extra numbers are required. The Group is established under rules common to all Groups. The Board of Trustees is appointed in accordance with the Policy, Organisation and Rules of the Scout Association. The Accounts have been drawn up on the receipts and payments basis, which is consistent with the previous year. Approved by the Executive Committee on 2£ Ju The. 4 and signed on their behalf by..
