Report of the Trustees for Year ending 31[st] March 2021

The Trustees of 2[nd] Tenterden Scout Group present their annual report and independently examined accounts for the year ended 31 March 2021.

Aims

The aim of the Scout Association is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spritiual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities. The method of achieving the Aim of the Association is by providing an enjoyable and attractive scheme of progressive training, based on the Scout Promise and Law guided by adult leadership.

Summary of Achievements

During the this financial year the 2[nd] Tenterden Scout Group raised funds through internal and external donations with the explicit goal of enhancing the facilities available to the scouts. There has also been support in the form of government grants due to Covid.

Governance Issues

The structure of the internal governance has not changed during the financial year, however there was a large turnover of the Trustees. The new board of Trustees took on the responsibility to run the 2[nd] Tenterden Scout Group and to complete the annual accounts. The creation of the accounts was not without issues as not all documents were received by the incoming Trustee group and the accounts required a number of hours to compile. The letter from the Independent Examiner will verify that at the point that the current board of Trustees took over the accounts have a full set of supporting documents.

Going forward the New Chairman and Treasurer have updated the process to which the control of payments and expenses, to ensure full compliance with the preparation of full accounts.

Reserves

The group have kept reserves of £30,666 as at the end of 31[st] March 2021. These reserves are in place to ensure that the Trustees have the ability to renew any equipment that is necessary both for the building and that used for the activities of the Scouts.

Sources of funds

The group relies on weekly subscriptions for the activities that the Scouts attend, external donations from local firms and finally from the groups fundraising committee. The majority of the funds are held in the groups bank accounts held with the Lloyds Banking Group. With a small amount of Petty cash held by the Treasurer and Scout Group Leaders to pay for ancillary items for the weekly activities.
