DAWLISH 1st Dawlish Scout Group Seaborne Hall, Sandy Lane, Dawlish, De Charlty No. 301042 Scouts CHAIR'S REPORT l April 2023- 31 March 2024 This past year we welcomed 2 new leaders into our Scouting team. Louise in 8eavers and James within Scouts, they have quickly become valuable members of the team. It is great to have increased our leadership team but we are aLways on the lookout for new helpers and leaders tojoin. so parents. carers. grandparent5 please come and chat to us if you can lend some time to help out hDwever big or small. This year we kicked off our huge minibus fundraising campaign. We have a massive challenge on our hands to raise enough money to replace are very age-ed and loyal minibus (but sadly the rust holes are getting bigger by the daylll Our tsrget is in excess gf £30k. the amount that is required to purchase a IO+ year old bus. Thank vou to Ellie Simcox who tirele5sLy contacted pretty much every trust and bu5ine5s in Dawlish for funds. but sadly in these difficult economic times very little has been donated through this method. Fund raising to this level 15 always a chalLenge but we are nearing half of our target in 8 months so we can do this. We had a great curry nd gin night in the Sprin9 which raised over £1200 and wa5 tripled with company matching. so fund raising can be funl If anyone has any fundraising ideas of community events. local companies or trusts they know of that can support U5 please let the committee know. We held two very successful camps this summer. A weekend camp at Cofton in the spring for all ages and a weeks Scout l Explorer camp this summer in Cornwall with the most incredible weather Ifor once on a scout camp sun cream and sun hats were needed rather than raincoatsll Thanks to all the leaders who gave up their free time for these camps- what a comrnitsnentl And it will all happen again In 20251 Personally, I would like to express a huge thank you to all the leaders and executive committee for all the hard work they have continued to give to the scouting family. We have 3150 been able to en8a8e a c3retakÈr to keep a regular check on the hall to ensure it continues to be a pleasant space for our group actlvities FUNDRAISING & DONATIONS We were lortunate to feceive donations durin8 the year both for the group a5 a whole and for the mlnlbus 5peciflcally. £100 was re￿iVed from the Cozens Instltute to support group activitle5. The minbbus replacement lund was boosted greatly with funds of £8949 being received. These included a hugely generous prlvate donatlon of £5.OCQ along with donations from the Amory Trust, Ashcombe Vlllage Hall. Salem'5 Lodge and Scott Rlchards Sollcltors plu5 proceeds frorn fundralsinB activlties such as Chocolate Bingo, Bags for Schools, Paella Ni8ht, football marshallingi the Spring Camp collectlon and last year'5 AGM raffle. NOTABLE EXPENDITURE Key expendlture was £1194 to replacelrepair the entrance door$ whl¢h had been damaged by water and high wind5, £265 was spent on a sel of walkle talkies and £522 covered rhe Installatlon of a flre alarrn alert 5yslem to reduce noise dlsturbance for our nei8hbours when the alarm is activated. £150 enabled us to offei free Swimming ses51on5 at Lady's Mile to all sections. rve The Group's pollcy on reserves Is to hold sufficlent resources to contlnue the charitable actlvitles of the group should income and fundraising activitle5 fall short. The Commlttee conslders that the group should hold a sum equlvalent to four months runnlng costs, clrca £l,OCXJ. Thi5 pollty was proven durln8 the lockdown perlod and, wlth the help of the contin8ency 8rant the sum was preserved for the future.
