CHAIR'S REPORT
l April 2023- 31 March 2024
This past year we welcomed 2 new leaders into our Scouting team. Louise in
8eavers and James within Scouts, they have quickly become valuable members of
the team. It is great to have increased our leadership team but we are aLways on
the lookout for new helpers and leaders tojoin. so parents. carers. grandparent5
please come and chat to us if you can lend some time to help out hDwever big or
small.
This year we kicked off our huge minibus fundraising campaign. We have a massive
challenge on our hands to raise enough money to replace are very age-ed and loyal
minibus (but sadly the rust holes are getting bigger by the daylll Our tsrget is in
excess gf £30k. the amount that is required to purchase a IO+ year old bus. Thank
vou to Ellie Simcox who tirele5sLy contacted pretty much every trust and bu5ine5s in
Dawlish for funds. but sadly in these difficult economic times very little has been
donated through this method. Fund raising to this level 15 always a chalLenge but we
are nearing half of our target in 8 months so we can do this. We had a great curry
nd gin night in the Sprin9 which raised over £1200 and wa5 tripled with company
matching. so fund raising can be funl If anyone has any fundraising ideas of
community events. local companies or trusts they know of that can support U5 please
let the committee know.
We held two very successful camps this summer. A weekend camp at Cofton in the
spring for all ages and a weeks Scout l Explorer camp this summer in Cornwall with
the most incredible weather Ifor once on a scout camp sun cream and sun hats were
needed rather than raincoatsll Thanks to all the leaders who gave up their free time
for these camps- what a comrnitsnentl And it will all happen again In 20251
Personally, I would like to express a huge thank you to all the leaders and executive
committee for all the hard work they have continued to give to the scouting family.
They devote so much time and energy for our children and scouts could not continue
without their amazing dedication. Thank you Team.
