Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document

As set out in the BSSC’s governing document, the aim and objectives of the Charity are to establish a Sports and Social Club that promotes and organises sporting, recreational, and social activities for the benefit of Blunham residents, Association members, affiliated organisations, and their guests.

Furthermore, the BSSC aims to create and maintain facilities that support the activities of the Charity, reflecting the needs and preferences of Blunham residents and its stakeholders. During the course of the year the charity continued to develop the facilities available and provide social events. In delivering recreational and sporting activities the play area, sporting facilities and playing fields are provided free with access for the enjoyment of all.

Blunham Playing Fields has continued to be maintained to a high level standard thanks to volunteers and local contractors, making it suitable to host county cricket matches, football matches and school sports days.

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

The Pavilion on Blunham Playing Fields is advertised for hire to groups and individuals from the village and surrounding areas, and has been use by local businesses for corporate events, the County Council as a polling booth, individuals for private parties/events and local sports / recreational clubs.

Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)

BSSC would like to express its gratitude for the help and support it has received from trustees, volunteers, villagers, sports clubs and the Parish Council who give up countless hours of voluntary service. Without this support it would not be possible for the Charity to provide and develop the facilities on Blunham Playing Fields and put on events such as Blunham’s Annual Fireworks Night and community music festivals / family days such as Party In The Park.

The BSSC has also begun investigating potential avenues for grant funding, such as The National Lottery, in order to secure investment to enhance the current facilities.

Events:

– The BSSC carried out several events during the period of January December 2024, including:

All events engaged the wider community and were put on with the support of many local organisations, such as Blunham Village Hall, Blunham Parish Council, St Edmuns or St James Chuch, The Horseshoes Pub, Blunham Football Club and Blunham Cricket Club.
