Music Preserved was founded to preserve documents of public performances in recorded sound for future generations, securing, as far as possible, the integrity of the performances and the performance contexts.

Objects: (A) To Promote The Advancement, Appreciation And Knowledge Of Music And For This Purpose To Oversee And To Provide A Programme Of Making Archive Recordings Both Audio And Audio-Visual Of A Representative Selection Of The Music Which Has Been Or Is Or Will Be Performed Primarily But Not Exclusively In The United Kingdom So That The Public And In Particular Musicians And Students May, In Controlled Conditions, Listen To And Study Music In Performance. (B) To Acquire, Collect In, Retain And Safeguard Ownership Of And The Copyrights In Any Recording Meduim Which Encompass Performances Of Music With Or Without The Words Spoken Or Sung In Association Therwith ("The Recordings"). (C) To Provide Archives, Libraries And Depositories And Other Facilities For The Retention, Preservation And Collation Of Recordings And The Provision Of Access For The Public To See And/or Listen To The Recordings.
