Objects and Purposes
The objects of the charity are to advance the education of pupils in the Weald of Kent Grammar School, in particular by:
-
developing effective relationships between staff, parents and other associations; and
-
engaging in activities or providing facilities which support the school and advance the education of the pupils.
Activities, Achievements and Performance
Having lain dormant for a number of years, a new committee was formed during 2022 to revive the PTA. Having in effect started from scratch, it has continued to be very successful in fundraising activities, putting on events to support the school and students, and providing funding to the school for equipment.
The main fundraising events were the Christmas Fair, which raised nearly £11k net, and the Year 7 and Year 8 discos held at both sites, which together raised £3.9k net. The second-hand uniform shop also proved very popular, raising £5.9k net. Additional funds were raised from the school lottery, Easy Fundraising and matched funding.
In addition to the fundraising events, the PTA fostered relationships between staff, students and parents by supporting a number of events including a Careers Fair, staff BBQ and sports day. Other activities for students run by the PTA included a Murder Mystery evening.
Over £52.8k of school funding requests were met by the PTA during the period, with the main outlay being new digital signage for students at a cost of £20k. Over £5.6k was spent on sports clubs, £5.4k on music equipment, £2.5k on library equipment, £2.5k on gazebos and £1.3k on 3D printers. Many other smaller requests from different departments within the school were met throughout the year.
The trustees would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported the PTA, either by volunteering or attending events.
Financial Review
During the period the PTA had a net deficit of receipts over payments of £28,478 (2024: surplus of £19,689). This planned deficit reflects the trustees' decision to deploy funds accumulated in prior periods on substantial capital items for the school, principally the £20k digital signage. The funds of the PTA at the end of the period amounted to £48,189 (2024: £76,666).
Since the end of the period a further £21k of funding has been met, including £4k for the drama department, £5k for benches, £5k for a long jump pit and £3k for SEN laptops. Having considered the financial stability of the PTA, the trustees have no concerns about its ongoing viability.
Reserves Policy
The charity holds reserves to enable it to meet agreed funding commitments to the school and to provide working capital for fundraising events. The trustees consider the level of reserves at the period end to be appropriate. All funds are unrestricted.
Basis of Accounting
The accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis in accordance with the Charities Act 2011.
