Structure of the Society:

The Society structure consists of four officers; Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer, Chairman and Vice-Chair.

Management of the Society shall be vested in a general committee consisting of four officers and no less than four other members of the society, this is currently 12.

The general committee meets a minimum of four times per year

As a Society, our membership is currently around 400 people, membership is open to all adults by way of an annual subscription, falling for renewal at our AGM every March.

Trustee’s (list above) are appointment by the membership at the AGM as required.

We are as a Society affiliated to the National Traction Engine Trust (NTET).
Objectives of the Society:
- The objective of the Society is to advance the education of the public concerning all types of steam engines, tractors, agricultural machinery and equipment, fairground organs and equipment, veteran and vintage cars, and any machinery or equipment of historical interest.
Activity of the Society:
The main activities during the year continue to be:

To organise a Steam & Country Fayre, open to the general public

To hold monthly meetings for members and the general public incorporating film shows and educational talks
-
Members of the Society are available on request to give presentations at a variety of different clubs across Bedfordshire on the steam and vintage preservation movement

We operate a driving day for NTET Steam Apprentice members, allowing them to gain hands on experience in operating steam and vintage vehicles
-
We also host between 300-500 children from local schools at our annual steam and country show, encouraging our event to be a learning environment for the next generation

Through our affiliation with the NTET we maintain involvement with the Federation of British Historic Vehicles Clubs (FBHVC)

The Society continues to develop ways to provide members of the public’s appreciation of steam and vintage vehicles in their working roles, encouraging younger enthusiasts to participate in the Society’s activities.

In accordance with our engagement letter, we have prepared for your approval the financial information of Bedford Steam Engine Preservation Society for the year ended 31 December 2024 which comprises of the profit and loss account from the entity's accounting records and from information and explanations you have given us.
As a practising member firm of of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), we are subject to its ethical and other professional requirements which are detailed at icaew.com/ members handbook. Our work has been undertaken in accordance with ICAEW Technical release TECH08/16AAF.

1. Accounting basis
Significant accounting policies
Statement of compliance
These financial statements have been prepared in compliance with FRS 102(1A) – The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland and the Companies Act 2006.
Basis of preparation
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention as modified by the revaluation of land and buildings and certain financial instruments measured at fair value in accordance with the accounting policies.
The financial statements are prepared in sterling which is the functional currency of the company.
Tangible fixed assets
Tangible fixed assets, other than freehold land, are stated at cost or valuation less depreciation and any provision for impairment. Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost or valuation of fixed assets, less their estimated residual value, over their expected useful lives on the following basis:

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31[st] December 2024.
- Responsibilities and As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation basis of report of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have examiner's statement come to my attention (other than that disclosed below *) in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
