The Society is administered by four Officers, with assistance from the members of the Council.
The Officers during the year under review were as follows

Review of developments, activities and achievements
Annual Exhibition
The Society's Annual Exhibition was held at the Mall Galleries, London from the 21[st] to 30[th] September 2023.
This was the Society's 78[th] Annual Exhibition, open to members and non-members. Works were exhibited by members and (following a two-stage selection process) by non-members. All of the work was of a high standard with 13 prizes awarded to both members and non-members. Gross sales of £58,865 were achieved, just short of the £60,000 budget, a significant increase from the previous year.
Education
Members of the Society have continued to provide demonstrations of producing marine art in a variety of media with seven demonstrations by Members and Associate Members at the 2023 exhibition. A video to promote the RSMA and its mission to new audiences was in production over the year and will be showcased at the 2024 exhibitions, and available as a promotional/educational tool at future events and exhibitions across the country.
Archivist
One of the duties of the Archivist is to answer enquiries from the public relating to marine painting or artists. The majority of the enquiries received are via the internet, and they come from all round the globe.
Website www.rsma-web.co.uk http://www.rsma.org/
A steady flow of enquiries come via this website and the Society gives help to individuals and organisations in relation to past and current members of the Society and on marine art and artists.
Promotion of the Society's work is now also carried out through the various social media platforms – Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.
Statement of Trustees' responsibilities
The Society's trustees are responsible for preparing receipts and payments account and a statement of assets and liabilities for each financial year that properly presents the Society's receipts and payments during the year and its assets and liabilities at the year end. In preparing these financial statements the trustees are required to:
-
Select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently.
-
Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent.
-
Prepare financial statements on a going concern basis unless it is
-
inappropriate to assume the Society will continue in business.
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that enable them to disclose the financial position of the Society with reasonable accuracy at any time. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Society and hence taking reasonable steps for the prevention of fraud and other irregularities. The assets of the Society are held in reserve for future commitments and projects.
The trustees declare that they have approved the Trustees Report.
