Chair’s report Carleton Rode Jubilee Hall, 21st July 2025
The hall has been well used with Preschool in daily during term �me and regular evening use. The Tuesday evening Line Dancing has con�nued to prove very popular, with Paul trialing a second session for beginners.
Week-ends have been a li�le quieter, but that said, throughout the year there have been a reasonable number of week-end bookings for par�es, social events and Rachel’s Community Art Club. My thanks go to social club staff who open the hall, man the bar, lock up a�er everyone and generally keep an eye on things. Special thanks to Tim for dealing with the drapes when required. They do make a huge difference to enhancing the special occasions in the hall.
Jubilee Hall itself has s�ll hosted the monthly Community Cinema screenings (from September to April) and with the regular a�endees we more or less break even. These will start again in September. The February Family Film and Ac�vity a�ernoon went well, funded by a grant received for engaging the local community in becoming healthier and more ac�ve.
Preschool helped to organize a fund-raising bingo evening for us, raising £500 towards ligh�ng for the playground. Many thanks to them for sor�ng it out. We haven’t really had any other fundraising events but it would be good to sort a few out for the coming year as they generally involve the wider community, which is always a good thing.
The 3G court has proved very popular throughout the year. Well used as a winter training venue for a number of youth teams, 1-1 training sessions for several coaches, a general let off steam kick-about at weekends and a very popular loca�on for outdoor birthday par�es. In fact, we have had more court birthday bookings for children than hall ones.
Throughout the spring and summer evenings it has s�ll been booked out regularly. Next winter’s training slots are already almost full with the youth teams keen to secure a place. It is great to see that so many people appreciate the facili�es we have on offer.
Steve and his Monday Walking Football team have con�nued to go from strength to strength, easily winning all the matches they have played against other teams this year and steadily increasing their numbers.
March saw Walking Netball sessions start up too. These were ini�ally funded by the ac�ve community grant, with 6 taster sessions. Very well received by the enthusias�c par�cipants who opted to keep it going as they were enjoying it so much. Tiring but fun seems to be the general consensus.
Again, thanks to the social club team for making sure the court is ready for bookings, locking/unlocking, seeing to lights and generally keeping an eye on the court. It makes a huge difference to our ability to provide such a popular amenity.
With our high electricity use and ever-increasing bills it made sense to take advantage of some grants being offered by South Norfolk council to help towards the installa�on cost of solar panels. This had to be done in conjunc�on with having an electric vehicle charging point set up as 24hour public access. The EVCP was fully funded by grant with a further grant
the charging point, as well as reduce our bills. With nearly 15kw of panels installed they should make a significant difference to our costs, as well as providing us with ‘green’ power.
The online booking system has been well used, par�cularly for court bookings as people can see when it is available and pay as well. Many thanks to Barry Brosnihan for the �me and effort he puts into keeping on top of the gremlins that get into the system and those chancers who try to get past his security systems. I wouldn’t even know where to begin.
