Trustees’ Report for the year ended 31 August 2022
The trustees present their report for the year ended 31 August 2022.
Objects of the charity
The charity's object is to promote, improve, develop and maintain public education in and appreciation of the art and science of choral music in all its aspects.
Review of Activities
The choir was able to resume ‘normal’ rehearsals from the start of the financial year and we were able to perform our usual concert schedule for the season. Our Remembrance concert took place in Romsey Abbey in November, using players from the Chameleon Arts Ensemble. We performed an afternoon Christmas Carol concert in Chandler’s Ford Methodist Church, using soloists taken from the choir. In March, our Spring concert was performed in Winchester’s St Cross Church, and our season culminated with a performance in Romsey Abbey in July - a joint venture with the City of Southampton Orchestra, and augmentation from the Waverley Singers. No grants have been received this year as the choirs finances were in good shape prior to lockdown.
Trustees
The charity is managed by trustees. The trustees who served during the year are: Mrs S. Andrews (Chairman) Mr J. Bailes Mrs C. Chatters (Minutes Secretary) Mrs J. Loescher (Treasurer) Mrs C. Sprott Mrs J. Bull Mrs H. Mitchell (Secretary) Miss C. Wickens
Public Benefit
The charity operates for the benefit of the public by the presentation of public choral concerts and recitals and by such other ways as the Society through its committee shall determine from time to time.
Financial review
The financial activities are detailed in the Statement of Financial Activities on page 4. Incoming resources for the year were £25,790 (2021 - £10,413) and resources expended were £25,930 (2021 - £15,352), giving net outgoing resources for the year of £141 (2021 – net outgoing resources of £4,939). The charity’s policy on reserves is to maintain funds of at least £6,000 in order to facilitate concert cash flow, as fees to orchestras and soloists are payable in advance of concert receipts. At the balance sheet date the reserves of £24,471 (2021 - £24,611) meet this criterion.
