Wield Village Hall 2022/23 Chairman’s report

Hall and Flat environmental improvements have been the main tasks this year. The hall roof now has 300mm of insulation. The Flat has had some walls insulated and the bathroom rebuilt with a shower. LPG heating has also been added to the Flat.

We have been granted £23,000 by HCC and WPC to replace the windows with double glazed uPVC and to install Solar PV into the rear playground. However, EHDC planning department have refused us permission to install uPVC, and want us to spend circa £40,000 on Accoya wooden windows. We now will have to apply for even bigger grants and look for local donations.

The flat has a new tenant (Terry) who seems to have settled in well. Training 4 Dogs has been a major user of the hall this year.

Wield Good Companions (a local group who have been using the hall to show some popular films) have been showing some films this winter. Attendance has been much better this year, and its future looks positive.

Rent free hire has been offered to the WI and the local Glenn Miller Tribute Band (who are raising money for charity).

Chairmanship and Support

Phil Pullinger served on the committee as Chairman for a number of years now, and has decided to step down, but he will remain on the Committee. Phil has provided outstanding leadership and management whilst in Office and The Village Hall Committee thanks Phil for his service to the community. I am certain that Wield Parish Council and our Community as a whole will also recognise his commitment in keeping this community asset open. The Chair has now been passed back to me, and I have previous!. I held the Chairmanship for 5 years in the early 2000. I will do my best to keep the high standard Phil has set.

Everyone in Wield, has at some time either hired the Village Hall or participated in events in the Hall. This building is the centre piece of our community . Wield Village Hall needs Community Support and Committee Members to keep it running. Participating in events is fine, but we also need to assure succession of our current longstanding Committee Members. Anyone who is willing to help is welcome and you can join the Committee at any time of the year. If you are interested please contact me and I will explain where support can be given. I can assure you the work is not demanding and we only hold meetings about 3 times a year. We currently have a vacancy for a Bookings Administrator, and opportunities for anyone who would like to help organise community events or fundraising events at the Hall or on the Village Green. If you can help please come forward, and if you feel your skill set is not worthy of the Committee then please think again.
